 Soil Fund Seeks Silent Auction items The Save Our International Land (SOIL) charitable fund of IECA will hold a silent auction in the Expo Hall at EC10. The SOIL Fund Committee would be thrilled to have attendees donate items to the auction. The items can be small, large, silly, special - anything goes! Items so far include a display of past and present IECA lapel pins donated by Mike Harding; trips donated by both Julie Etra and Tom Williams; and a fancy humidor donated by Tom Carpenter. What can you donate? Please bring something with you to EC10. You can drop it off at the Membership Booth near the Registration Area.  IECA Announces Partnership with Texas Association of Builders IECA has recently completed an agreement with the Texas Association of Builders (TAB) to be the exclusive provider of TAB's "SWPPP It or Sweat It" contractor's stormwater training course. IECA will deliver the "SWPPP It or Sweat It" course online and in a live format. It will also provide training for IECA members who wish to instruct this course. IECA's objective in this partnership is to create opportunities to train members of the Texas Association of Builders on erosion, sediment control and stormwater related issues using expertise found within IECA in these fields. Brock Peters, CISEC, IECA's Technical Vice President (pictured), had this to say of the partnership: "The Texas Association of Builders has taken an unprecedented step in recognizing the importance of assisting building industry compliance by partnering with IECA. The TAB 'SWPPP It or SWEAT It' stormwater compliance training course is an opportunity for two great associations to combine efforts to meet a common goal.  SCIECA Muddy Water Blues Comes to Arkansas Northwest Arkansas MS4s are hosting the South Central Chapter's (SCIECA) Muddy Water Blues Conference at the Clarion Hotel & Convention Center in Bentonville, AR on March 28-31, 2010. Registration is open to anyone with an interest in stormwater. The conference will feature discussions and training to prepare officials,
municipal and contractor employees with the skills to meet the
challenges encountered with creating, operating, managing and enforcing

 Northern Plains & South Africa Provide Learning Opportunities Close to Home Led by organizers Mark Myrowich and Gil Barber, the Northern Plains Chapter educated more than 130 professionals at their recent "Winter Erosion" events in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Guest speaker Alex Zimmerman trained the crowd in his usual engaging fashion. Barber of Edmonton, Alberta will be running for President of the IECANP region. He has been active in the industry for many years, was instrumental in the Northern Plains Chapter's development and maintains the popular and heavily-trafficked Chapter blog. Elections will be held for President, Secretary, Treasurer and Regional Vice-Presidents at the Chapter's EC10 meeting in Dallas, TX on Thurs. Feb. 18 from 5:00-6:30pm in the Opal Room. The Chapter thanks outgoing president Ian Corne for his years of service.
The South Africa Chapter (IECA-SA) held an Annual National Conference at the Dome Mountain Park near Parys, South Africa in August to educate professionals in the region. A photo of conference delegates in included here. The event resulted in consensus and willingness of participants to jointly approach government under the umbrella of IECA-SA to: 1) Implement a basis of cooperation in addressing land degradation issues, involving participation by local communities to create job opportunities, sustainable livelihoods and poverty alleviation; and 2) Engagement to build a partnership whereby soil conservation can contribute to sustainable develpment.
