Ecuador Project Volunteers Requested
Members - Here is your chance to assist IECA and Engineers without Borders (EWB) and combine your summer vacation with a working trip to Tsuraku, Ecuador. IECA would like to continue its partnership with EWB that began last year by assisting in the stabilization of a reservoir in a remote village in eastern Ecuador. (Check out the July 2009 issue of Environmental Connection for a feature story on this project.) Work in 2009 will focus on the installation of a potable water distribution system approximately 1/2 mile long, which will require substantial erosion control. Work will consist of evaluating methodologies, obtaining proper materials and guiding installation. Project kick-off will begin with the assessment team departing from the US on June 17th. For more information, contact Russ Adsit with the SOIL Fund.

New Jersey To Test Products

The NJ State Soil Conservation Committee (SSCC) is teaming up with Rutgers University to test new erosion and sediment control products on campus construction sites. The performance of these BMPs will be evaluated by the SSCC, Rutgers and the Freehold Soil Conservation District. After a product has proven itself in the field, it will much easier to have it approved for use on job sites regulated by Soil Conservation Districts. Initially the program will be testing sediment control and inlet protection devices. Trials of BMPs for more demanding sites will follow.

All manufacturers are welcome to participate. To have products tested, contact Ines Grimm, Manager of the Freehold Soil Conservation District for details.
