Greetings
...This is turning out to be a busy summer! We have just returned from Calgary where Marilyn and I delivered a customized Best-Half Discovery Forum for a new corporate client. The greatest feedback we heard about Best-Half was from one participant who said: "What a fantastic company we work for that would send us to something like this."
Hope you are enjoying your summer.
Cheers Gord

The real retirement age |
Last month I talked about a webinar looking at engaging and retaining older workers. Several of the participants talked about their employees working past 65 years of age and were hoping to keep some of them even longer. There seemed to be a real focus on 65. While I couldn't back it up at the time with any hard data my feeling was, from talking to a lot of senior corporate people, that employees, especially in the senior ranks are leaving the traditional workforce a lot sooner. In a recent Globe and Mail article entitled Too old for long-term plans...too young to be put out to pasture our observation was backed up. The author talks about using innovative strategies to keep workers on the job past age 65. The purpose would be to stave off the coming shortage of workers forecasted to begin around 2011. The author continues to say..." but this forecast is optimistic, contends Chris Higgins, a professor at the University of Western Ontario's Ivey School of Business, who says that most Canadians are now retired by the age of 58." My only disagreement with Dr. Higgins would be his use of the word "retirement." What these youthful 58 year olds are really doing is reinventing themselves for the next stage of their lives - the stage that we call The Best-Half!

The Kolbe Index
|
|
We have had some enquiries about "what is Kolbe?"
The Kolbe Index, developed by Kathy Kolbe is an assessment tool that we have used extensively for
almost 15 years. Unlike so many assessments Kolbe is not a test. You
can't pass or fail and you can't improve your results. That is because
the Kolbe Index measures your natural method of taking action through
your instincts. Instincts don't change over time and so it is a
wonderful way of helping individuals and teams understand what makes
them successful in both the short term and the long term and how to
leverage their unique strengths. Kolbe measures four modes or drivers: Fact Finder, Follow Thru, Quick Start and Implementor.
I am one of a few Canadian
consultants certified by Kolbe Corp. to interpret the results and to use
Kolbe in the hiring process. The great thing about working with
organizations and individuals using Kolbe is that once one person
experiences it they want more people to be involved. For more
information on Kolbe give me a call or send me an email or go to their
website: www.kolbe.com or their B to B site: www.warewithal.com.
By the way, I am a pioneer in Kolbe with an MO of 3396. Email me if you are curious
about your results and what this means to you and your team. The cost of administering the index is complmentary for the first 5 people who get in touch.
Next month I will give some examples of how teams can get introuble when too many people have the same or similar Kolbe results. |
