What's one of the best ways to practice and meet other hoopers? Hoopjams of course. They are free, they are in the sun and they will happen as much as possible this summer. You can always check our site for listings as well as tribe.net/hooperpower.

Hoops and music will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring hoops if you got 'em. All levels are welcome!

HooperPower wants to thank the Windy City Rollers for inviting us perform for their fans at the Ivy King Cup Championship this year. We always love hooping for the WCR fans and we congratulate the Hell's Belles for winning the Cup!

We want to also thank our friend, the lovely hooper mARTa for her beautiful dance and collaboration with costumes and the WCR photographers Ryan Horjes and Kately Stapely for capturing the fun.

HooperPower Hooper of the Month: Mark Salach

Mark

Mark Salach = hot dude hooper. Silky smooth moves, fluid dance and hoop style. He's got an incredible energy, he's like a cool person and fun times fly-tape.

HP: What does hoopdance mean to you?

MS: Hoopdance and hooping in general for me is part physically active creativity, part mind-body challenge.

HP: What's the most significant change in yourself since you started hooping?

MS: I'm not one for "exercising" regularly. So, for me to be hooked on something that is good for me is a change in itself. I've also discovered a further sense of rhythm and another way to enjoy music that makes you want to move.

HP: What advice would you give to a new hooper?

MS: Probably the same thing I tell myself... Think less - feel more. When you attempt a trick: commit yourself to it. Or better said, give yourself over to it, and follow through. Close your eyes!

HP: Tell us your thoughts on men and hooping.

MS: Our numbers are small, but mighty. More and more men will be hooping - but for the moment I don't mind the ratio of women to men! Hooping is as gendered as you want to make it. The moves are neutral and everyone puts his or her own "spin" on them - feminine, masculine, alien... whatever.

HP: What music are you listening to these days while hooping?

MS: Monkey Mafia, Jahcoozi, Edit, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Mo' Horizons, and Bassnectar of course. I've had some fun with reggae and Brazilian music as well.

HP: Where is your favorite place to hoop?

MS: Outside of course is best. The park has been really nice. My deck, backyard and parking lots are also good. We've had some fantastic sessions just in my kitchen!

HP: What does "HooperPower" mean to you?

MS: HooperPower gives you the keys to unlock a vault of challenging, rewarding fun. It's both social and totally individual. I love seeing people getting into it for the first time: maybe they're timid at first, but then they try and don't want to stop... smiling the whole time! HooperPower provides so many great "ah ha" moments - like when your body and mind figured out how to ride a bike - and inspires you to keep exploring for more.
