Introducing the amazing force that is Corinne
Whitney. She's is a cardio kickboxer and instructor
who is the reason the phrase "making it hurt so good"
exists. By day, she's a documentary producer and by
night she's a hoopdancing ninja who has mastered
the delicate combo of flipping on the sexy switch and
just plain getting silly. She helps make every
HooperPower hoopdance class at Chang's Martial
Arts the fantastic time that it is.
Q&A for Corinne:
HP: What does hoopdance mean to you?
C: What I've found is that hula hoops make people
smile, and that's a really precious thing in this world.
Hoopdancing is such a joyful part of my life right now,
and I love encouraging other folks to give it a shot,
because it makes me happy to see and hear people
inevitably giggle when they try it.
HP: What's the most significant change in yourself since
you started hoopdancing?
C: For a while, hoopdance seemed just out of reach for
me, until I plunged into it and refused to give up trying
new tricks. Now I embrace new tricks, as impossible ads
they may feel at first, and when I'm able to carry that
same ambition into the rest of my life, I consider myself
very lucky o have found hoopdance.
HP: What music are you listening to these days while
hoopdancing?
C: I've been old school Fat Boy Slim lately, just to keep
up the silly factor.
HP: Where is your favorite place to hoopdance?
C: After Tae Kwon Do and Kickboxing at my gym,
Chang's Martial Arts, the floor is open and I can just rock
out for as long as I want... or until I fall down laughing.
HP: What does "HooperPower" mean to you?
C: Hoopdancing does have a special power of bringing
people joy, watching or doing it. There is power in
learning to control a hoop and using it as a means of
creative expression, and as an outlet for sexiness and
positivity. HooperPower to me means having the power
to use a hoop in making the world a better place.
