Unraveling Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
The USCIS has released additional details about the deferred action process for childhood arrivals (lowered priority for deportation), which include warnings that this process is NOT a pathway to legal permanent residency or citizenship and that the cost of the application will be $465. The application itself will be accepted beginning on (AND NOT BEFORE) August 15, 2012.

With the growing interest in the deferred action process and pending application, the potential for scams and fraud has also increased. Please be advised that the application for deferred action is not yet available and will not be until August 15, 2012. Seek the advice of a licensed attorney or accredited organization if you intend to apply on or after August 15.

Free School Physicals and Immunizations
Alderman George Cardenas will be hosting Immunization Day to offer free school physicals, immunizations, dental examinations, and other services to children. Immunization Day will be held in McKinley Park (2210 W. Pershing Rd.) from 10:00am to 2:00pm on Saturday, August 25th.

The annual Unísono Festival will be held on August 18th in the Zócalo in Pilsen (18th St. and Paulina) and will be from 12:00pm to 10:00pm. The festival will feature performances by Pacha Massive, Ceci Bastida, Los Rakas, and other artists, as well as art exposés, spoken word performances, and workshops on various social justice issues.
