Is Deferred Action Right For You?

On June 15, 2012, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security announced a new administrative policy for deferred action with the potential to impact hundreds of thousands of DREAM students.  Undocumented youth with a clean criminal record and who meet certain criteria may be eligible for deferred action from deportation and obtain a 2-year work permit, yet the process does carry risks. Luis Gutierrez Appointed To Office Of New Americans Advisory Council

Mayor Rahm Emanuel recently appointed LP's Executive Director Luis Gutierrez to the Office of New Americans Advisory Council. This group is charged with fulfilling the Mayor's promise to make Chicago the most immigrant friendly city in the world.  Luis is participating in the Economic Opportunities subcommittee to strengthen the city's business sector.  [Read more]

Teatro Americano In a Theater Near You!

This summer Teatro Americano, with the support of After School Matters, brought 30 Chicago youth together to participate in the creation of an original play. Students are hired for the summer as apprentices in the theatrical arts, learning the ins and outs of writing, public speaking, acting, and behind-the-scenes theater work. Make Prom a reality for a Young Women in Little Village

Princess Closet is preparing for the next school year by hosting a fundraising event for scholarships and prom items for local high school girls. The fundraiser runs from 5pm-8pm on September 1st at 2458 S. Millard Ave, Chicago. [View the flyer]

 

Records Relief Seminar
The Cabrini Green Legal Aid is hosting a Records Relief Seminar to aid individuals with past criminal records in resume building and clemency petitions, including expungement and sealing petitions for criminal records.  The seminar will run from 9am to 1pm at 1111 N.
