The Dream is Alive
Help pass the DREAM Act! |
The DREAM Act, which would provide a pathway to legalization for thousands of undocumented youth, is moving again. Senator Reid announced on Tuesday that the DREAM Act will be introduced as an amendment to a defense appropriations bill (more about the bill), along with an amendment repealing the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. The amendment is expected as early next week. The amendment will need 60 votes to pass.
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has taken a lead on supporting the DREAM amendment and will be met with President Obama on Thursday.
To pass the DREAM Act, we need your help!
1. Contact your Senators and the White House. In Illinois, call your senators by dialing 1(888) 254-5087 and asking for Senator Durbin and Senator Burris. The White House number is 1(202) 456-1111. Thank them for their support of the DREAM Act and urge them to work with their colleagues to secure the 60 senate votes necessary to include and pass the DREAM Act.
2. Below are key senate targets. Reach out to friends, family and colleagues in their states and ask them to call, fax, or e-mail these senators to support and vote for the DREAM Act. We need as many calls as possible in the coming days. They can call 1-888-254-5087 and ask for their senator.
