The Shuler/Tancredo SAVE Act would target minor children and families for detention, further militarize the border, and  require all employers to use the flawed E-verify employment authorization verification system for all workers. This system punishes workers who are wrongly identified as undocumented by the E-verify system and encourages employers to avoid hiring workers who they consider likely to lack work authorization.

Ricardo Gamboa is an actor, artist and educator; he most recently appeared in 365 Plays/365 Days at Chicago Dramatists and with 500 Clown at Steppenwolf.  Ricardo is also an Artistic Associate of the emergent People's Theatre and a member of Barrel of Monkeys Theatre Company.  With a strong commitment to theater and community beyond his own work on stage, Gamboa has worked with over 3,000 school children as an actor-educator.  Ricardo joins Teatro Americano as a theater Instructor and Director and is currently running the spring theater workshop series.

Latinos United is proud to announce the completion of our housing overcrowding study Bajo el Mismo Techo (Under the Same Roof), The Latino Community in Suburban Chicago: An Analysis of Overcrowded Housing, to be released at a Housing Roundtable event. The Bajo el Mismo Techo Roundtable is the culmination of Latinos United's efforts towards forwarding an empowering and thoughtful housing policy agenda for Latinos throughout the Greater Chicago area. This report provides a summary of available knowledge on housing overcrowding and some of the issues involved in policy develop­ment.

Scholarships Available for the 2008 National Conference for Media Reform

The fourth National Conference for Media Reform is set for June 6-8, 2008 in Minneapolis, MN. The event will be an exciting, inspiring three-day gathering for people who are concerned about the state of our media and committed to working for change. The conference will convene thousands of activists, educators, media makers, journalists, policymakers and concerned citizens to discuss how to create a better media system.

In order to maximize the range of voices represented at the conference, Free Press has raised funds to offer travel scholarships and registration fee waivers to offset attendance costs for a number of individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend.
