2008 Studs Terkel Media Award Winner
Presented annually by the Community Media Workshop, the Studs Terkel Media Awards honor outstanding media professionals for excellence in covering and reflecting Chicago's diverse communities. Terkel Awards highlight reporters who take risks in covering social issues by offering new or unusual perspectives on topics of general concern, from housing to neighborhood safety and beyond. The awards honor journalists for going the extra mile in sourcing stories and thoughtful treatment of context.

Scholarships for Latino Students
The SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) Chicago Chapter and ComEd are offering scholarships of $2,000 each. Undergraduate and graduate Hispanic students from all majors and whose primary residence is in Illinois qualify. The application and eligibility criteria can be downloaded from http://www.shpechicago.org. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2008.

The CHCI (Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute) Scholarship Program is available to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a two-four year accredited college or university. Students pursing an associate's degree may apply for a grant in the amount of $1,000; $2,500 for bachelors candidates; $5,000 for graduate students. Fellowships with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus
CHCIʼs Public Policy Fellowship Program, conducted from September to May, provides college graduates with national, hands-on public policy experience in a congressional office, federal agency, nonprofit sector, or corporate setting. Travel, healthcare and $2,200 monthly stipend provided.
The Graduate & Young Professional Fellowship Program offers exceptional Latino graduates and young professionals unparalleledexposure to experience in the underserved public policy areas of Health, Housing, Law,and International Affairs. This competitive program is comprised of a nine-month fellowshipincluding a substantive work placement at a legislative subcommittee office, federalagency, national non-profit advocacy organization, or corporate office. The InternationalAffairs Fellowship includes three months abroad in Mexico or Spain from May to July.Travel, health insurance and $2,700 monthly stipend provided.

Casa Central Announces Programs for Children and Seniors
Casa Central seeks bilingual participants for its "Over 55" Senior Work Assignment Program, sponsored by the Chicago Department on Aging. You may qualify for an assignment within Casa Central for 20 hours a week. Applicants must have a Chicago address and meet income criteria, among other guidelines. The School Age Program at Casa Central welcomes your child to its childcare winter session. Children ages 5 to 12 are welcome to enroll. Hours of care run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with meals provided.
