Advocacy UpdatesLatinos Progresando Staff Participates in Fox Immigration Debate
The
debate, televised on Sunday Nov. 25th and available online, brought
together immigrants' rights advocates and virulent opponents of inclusive
immigration reform. Watch LP Development Director Laura Seago in the videos
entitled "Solutions," "Costs," "Fear," and"Questions" on the Fox website.
Take Action: After watching the videos, create a
login and talk back! Anti-immigrant extremists are already flooding the comments
section of the blog with illogical and unfounded statements about immigrant
communities. Don't let the Minutemen speak for you - take a moment to leave a
comment about why you support immigrants' rights. _____________________________________________________________________________
ICE Issues New Guidelines to Humanize
Raids
In light of activists' appeals to immigration
officials to consider the heavy toll of raids on children and families, US
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) adopted new "Guidelines for
Addressing Humanitarian Concerns" during worksite raids last week. This decision
follows national outrage at the October detention of a nursing mother in Ohio, which separated the Honduran woman from her
nine-month-old US
citizen daughter. The new ICE policy extends considerations for "humanitarian
release" to nursing mothers, pregnant women, and sole caregivers. For a news
story featuring the National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean
Communities, of which Latinos Progresando is a member, click here.

Important Legal Immigration Services Update Replace your green card now!
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently announced a proposal which will likely require all legal permanent residents carrying "green cards" (permanent resident cards) without an expiration date to replace their current cards.
Green Cards issued between 1979 and 1989 do not have an expiration date. These cards will become invalid 120 days after the new rule takes effect!
For more information or to apply for a new green card, contact the Legal Services Department at Latinos Progresando at (312) 850-0572.
