Community Forum Still a Chance to DREAM: Immigration Policy Updates and Prospects

In response to recent immigration crackdowns and anti-immigrant policy initiatives, Latinos Progresando presents a Community Forum on Tuesday, August 28. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear expert panelists' perspectives on comprehensive immigration reform proposals, pressing legislation, and opportunities for greater civic participation and community engagement this fall.
There is still a chance for Congress to give hardworking immigrant children a better future, by passing the DREAM Act in 2007!

Important Legal Immigration Services Update Replace your green card now!
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced a proposal last week which will likely require all legal permanent residents carrying "green cards" (permanent resident cards) without an expiration date to replace their current cards.
Green Cards issued between 1979 and 1989 do not have an expiration date. These cards will become invalid 120 days after the new rule takes effect!

Community Partner Event Proyecto Latina in the Sor Juana Festival
This fall Proyecto Latino is thrilled to be participating in the Sor Juana Festival. Please join us for a spectactular evening of literature, poetry, and music: Entre Letras, Palabras, y Cantos. With Felicia Luna Lemus presenting Like Son.
When: Friday, October 12th, 8:00pm Where: National Muesum of Mexican Art, 1852 W. 19th Street.
Join us as some of Chicago's local Mexicana poets take the stage with the art of spoken word, opening for acclaimed author Felicia Lopez Lemus. Local poets include Yolanda Cardenas, Magda Banda, Stephanie Gentry Fernandez and the music of the Luna Blues Machine.
