Policy Alert
Administration's Increased Enforcement of a Broken Immigration System Threatens Our Community

On Friday (8/10/07), the Bush Administration announced a broad initiative to increase worksite, border and interior immigration enforcement. This announcement signals the Bush Administration's abandonment of the goal of comprehensive immigration reform and a shift toward an enforcement-only strategy, relying heavily on Social Security Administration (SSA) "no-match" letters targeting 1.4 million workers.

LP denounces the Administration's initiative as an attempt to push more undocumented workers into the shadows by failing to provide opportunities for these workers to adjust their status and legally contribute to our country.

For more information on the Administration's announcement and its impact on immigrant communities, see the National Immigration Forum's update here
.
