From the Principal

Dear Las Lomitas Families,

The first parent-teacher conference is designed to better familiarize the classroom teacher with your child, to recognize your child's strengths and needs, and to coordinate school and home support. In fact, it is a sharing time whereby parents and teachers discuss and plan how best to assist the child in the learning process.

This year, conferences will be held November 7-10. November 11 is Veteran's Day - no school that day. We will be on a minimum day schedule on the four conference days. All grades K through 3 will begin school at 9 a.m. and be dismissed at 12:20 p.m. that week.

Conferences are scheduled in time blocks set by the teachers. Some teachers may schedule appointments before these minimum days. We ask your cooperation in being prompt to your conference time and date so there will be maximum time to talk about your child. Please note that there is to be no tape recording at parent conferences unless you have notified the teacher in advance and have the teacher's written permission.

Please consider the items below before the conference to help with your conversation with the teacher:

  • What are your child's strengths and needs?
  • Does your child enjoy reading and/or writing?
  • Does your child have an interest in math and/or science?
  • How does your child show interest in art, drama and music?
  • What physical activities does your child enjoy?
  • How do you support school learning at home? How often do you read with your child?
  • Is there educational, family, and/or medical history that may affect your child's education growth that should be shared with the teacher? (This information will be kept confidential.)

It is customary here at Las Lomitas for other school personnel (i.e. counselor, principal, reading specialist, etc.) to attend parent-teacher conferences. We believe that by working as a team and sharing information we are able to better support your child.

Research shows that parent involvement in a child's education is a critical factor in determining the degree to which a child will be successful in school. Please make attending the parent/teacher conference one of the ways you will be involved in your child's education.

Together we can make a difference.

Until next time,

Sue Sartor, Principal

LAST YEAR, WE MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE!  LET'S DO IT AGAIN!

The Annual Giving Campaign is in full swing.  A big thank you to the 15% of families and 53% of faculty and staff who have already given!  We appreciate your early support.  Coming home soon in your children's backpacks is our first donor honor roll thanking everyone who has given so far.  We are making a difference!

Remember, your Foundation gift helps:

  • Reduce class sizes - without the Foundation, your child's class would have 6 to 7 more students in it!
  • Ensure an enhanced curriculum - our children at Las Lomitas and La Entrada enjoy music, art, drama, physical education, computer, four foreign languages and geometry classes that are supported by the Foundation.

We need everyone to participate now!

For those who still have not given this year, please give now by clicking on http://www.llef.org/_donate/paypal_donate.html.  Thank you in advance for your support!
