St. Louis Region SCCA
November 29, 2010
Fellow members,

The Board of Directors and I wanted to give you a brief update on what's been happening and what's coming up for St.  Louis Region SCCA.   This note is in lieu of the usual November Wheelspin, but rest assured Wheelspin will return in all its glory for December.

Before I launch into a novel, here is a brief synopsis for those who are pressed for time:

1)  Banquet is coming January 16th, details to follow, e-mail stlbanquet@yahoo.com if you'd like to help out, be a sponsor, or donate attendance prizes.
2)  Awards committee is forming, in the meantime, please forward nominations to bod@scca.org
3)  The Solo Town hall is Dec. 7th at Spazio's, 6:00 p.m.
4)  Monthly social, and new "off to one side" membership meeting will be Dec 20th at Spazio's
5)  Your 2011 BOD thanks you for your support and thanks all of the 2010 BOD for theirs!

Now to continue with the "long-form":
First, in case you have not seen it on the forums or region website, we have some new officers and board members for 2011.  The 2011 BOD members are Steven Burkett - Regional Executive, Dave Jones - Assistant Regional Executive, Lon Friesenborg - Treasurer, Lynn Wilson - Secretary, and At Large members are Susan Anderson, Chuck DeProw, Dana Hullinger, Bill Schnardthorst, and Steve Slotten.

We all offer our sincere thanks to all of the outgoing board members who have worked so hard for us in the past year, so thanks again to Diane Prokopf, Janice Rick, Jeff Leavell or Jose Hernandez!

The transition is going smoothly, but there is a lot to do, so as they say, please "pardon our dust".

For those of you involved in PDX and Club Racing, the big question is "what's happening next year".  The BOD and program chairs (Jose Hernandez and Bryon Prokopf) are burning the midnight oil to answer that question.  Among the ideas being actively pursued are airport or other temporary courses, cooperative efforts with other clubs, events at other nearby tracks, and even completely new activities that will help keep our PDX and Club Racing programs strong while we find a new
"home base".  We also continue to pursue the possibility of racing at Gateway, as long as there is pavement on the ground, we will be like children in the back seat - repeat after me "Can we race yet?". Whatever happens, next year will certainly be a challenge, but keeping our PDX and Club Racing members involved and active is a top priority for the board, and we welcome your advice and suggestions!

The Solo program looks to be set for another great year, with 10 events slated for Family Arena, and Rallycrossers finally got to churn up some dirt this past weekend - early reports are that a good time
was had by all, we look forward to strong growth in this program next year.  For Club Rally, the 100 Acre Woods is coming in February - preparations are moving along nicely, and we are looking forward to another full schedule of RoadRally in 2011.  One of the board's guiding principals for 2011 is to develop a "whole region" approach to our events, and we look forward to working with the program committees to create some interesting new activities that combine the strengths of our programs.

The banquet season is upon us!  The annual awards banquet will again be held at Spazio's, on January 16th.  More details, including registration information and ticket prices will be announced in the Dec. Wheelspin.  Of course it wouldn't be an awards banquet without, well, awards, and the awards committee is now forming.  Look for an official announcement this week calling for nominations, in the meantime if you know someone deserving of recognition, please forward
your nomination to bod@stlscca.org.  You can find a list of awards and last year's winners at http://www.stlscca.org/archives/370 . Special thanks to Julia Briggen for coordinating the banquet this year and she needs your help!  If you can help directly, or if you or your business would like to sponsor the banquet or donate an attendance prize, please drop her a line at stlbanquet@yahoo.com.

We will continue the tradition of the club social Monday December 20th, 6:00 p.m. at Spazio's Westport.  You can expect the usual casual environment with bench racing and socializing, plus something new - we are going to go back to the future and hold a regular membership meeting from 7:00 until (at the latest) 8:00, for those who want to hear the treasurer's report, raise new business, throw rotten vegetables at the BOD, etc.  Please join us - we promise to keep it brief and informative, heck we'll even hold the meeting in a room off to the side so you can slip out and grab a beverage if we start to drone on.  Come one, come all.

A special note to soloists and potential soloists (in other words attention EVERYBODY):  The annual Solo Town Hall meeting to discuss the 2011 season will be held this Dec. 7th at 6:00 p.m. - Spazio's
Westport.

As always, we on the BOD are at your service, e-mail bod@scca.org or e-mail me directly steve@lunch.org with any questions, comments and concerns.  For all the region contacts, see the region website at www.stlscca.org.

I hope to see you at the December Social!

Respectfully yours,
Steven Burkett
St. Louis Region Regional Executive
