News from the Board of Directors Meeting
Dover Motorsports Declines 2011 NASCAR Events at Gateway International Raceway
Release date: July 28, 2010 Contact: Brandon W. Mudd 618-482-2495 bmudd@dovermotorsports.com
Dover Motorsports, Inc. (NYSE: DVD) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Gateway International Raceway has notified NASCAR that it will not seek 2011 sanctions for its two Nationwide Series and one Camping World Truck Series races.
Vice President and General Manager of Gateway, Terry Harmeson stated, "This was a difficult decision in light of the many years of earnest and continued efforts on everyone's part to develop a viable market for these events in one of our nation's greatest cities. We remain committed to fulfill the balance of our 2010 schedule including our October 23rd NASCAR Nationwide race which will provide our fans the opportunity to see Danica Patrick compete here for the first time. We also plan to explore various ways to change the economics at Gateway both from the revenue and expense side."
Denis McGlynn, President & CEO of Dover Motorsports, stated, "We have a group of extremely dedicated and talented employees who make Gateway a great destination and we deeply appreciate all the support we have had from the racing community over the years - from racing fans and drivers to sponsors, team owners and sanctioning bodies. However, economics dictate that we evaluate all of our options for this facility, including its possible sale."
-------- From the Board
What does this mean to the St. Louis Region's events?
We want to let you know what we know. We have a very good relationship with Gateway and this is what they are telling us:
Dover has dropped the NASCAR series here at Gateway. As for as local management reports, NASCAR is the ONLY thing that is being dropped at Gateway. We are working with Gateway as we speak for the 2011 events.
We are going to proceed in a positive manner for the 2011 season unless we are told otherwise. |

Precision Driving Xperience (PDX)
All of us have done the burn-out at a red light, or taken that curve at more than the "suggested speed," imagining ourselves as racers while never leaving our street cars. With these events, you don't have to dream anymore!
PDX's are about you, the driver. Plenty of seat time, plenty of individual instruction and a ton of driving exercises make up these events held at Gateway Raceway on the 1.6 mile Road Course; both of which is designed to educate you and make you more confident behind the wheel, both on the track and on the street.
A Precision Driving Experience (PDX) is an opportunity to work with an instructor and get practice. A Precision Driving Experience (PDX) is an opportunity to work with an instructor and get practice in car handling and precision driving in your own car on the 1.6-mile road course at Gateway International Raceway. This is a non-competitive, un-timed event. Drivers are grouped by prior experience. For safety, drivers are required to wear a helmet, long sleeve shirt and long pants.

Program Manager, April Schnardthorst.
Event 9 was August 1st and we had 103 drivers including many new and first-timers as well as out-of-towners.
We signed up at least two more SCCA members at the event.
Budget Overview:
Our financials will be reviewed at our August SAC meeting which was rescheduled to the third Tuesday instead of the second due to multiple personnel conflicts. We are still on track since the last report to the board since we had one event and it was profitable. No major deviations from our budget planning assumptions at this time.
Upcoming Events:
Event #10 is scheduled for this Sunday, August 15th which is our final points event.
Our second Test N Tune is scheduled for August 22nd.
And the End-Of-Year event is still scheduled for October 17th.
We are making every effort to increase membership this year through steps we are taking toward promotion, education, and making it more fun.

STL Road Rally News
Program Manager, Ron Ferris, Chairman
The Road Rally Weekend July 10, 11, 2010 was held, we have requested a report on this event and hope to recieve a report for the next Wheelspin on it.
National News:
2010 United States Road Rally Challenge (R) (Washington DC Region SCCA and Branded Rally Club of Maryland) Emmitsburg, Maryland 10/22/2010 - 10/24/2010
We are honored to be hosting the 2010 USRRC, the nation's premiere RoadRally event. This three day rally weekend, featuring events in all three SCCA RoadRally series, is intended to provide an annual venue to bring competitors of all levels together, from occasional regional entrants to die-hard national competitors, for a weekend of fun, competition, and socialization. The weekend will begin with the first running of Chris Bean's Rally. Blue and Gray National GTA Rally. The event will feature a relaxed pace, allowing contestants to take in the history and awe of the Civil War era. Questions throughout the event will require awareness of the General Instructions, and provide both a fun rally for newcomers as well as a legitimate test for long-time rallyists. An "armchair rally" will be provided in advance of the event to ensure all competitors are prepared for what will be expected. The rally will end in the vicinity of Gettysburg National Military Park, PA, where dinner will be provided by the committee.
Saturday will feature Eric Bloom's award-winning Catoctin Monte National Tour Rally. This event is a Monte Carlo style event, which means that teams are given the mileage for every turn and all possible controls, and the perfect Car 0 time to reach that control. Scores are generally low, as no calculations are required! For this year's challenge, we are bringing out all the stops, so be prepared for manned controls everywhere! The rally will end with dinner, provided by the committee, at the Braddock Inn in Braddock Heights, MD.
Sunday will feature the third running of Steve Gaddy's Lobster Traps National Course Rally. While the overall event will provide Steve's usual challenge to experienced competitors, the majority of legs will be basic, requiring no in depth logic or intricate knowledge of the RRRs to perform correctly. This event will end around 4pm in Mount Airy, MD with a no-host dinner, and final awards. Rally Headquarters will be the Sleep Inn & Suites, 501 Silo Hill Parkway, Emmitsburg, MD 21727. Phone 301-447-0044 before September 21 and mention the US Road Rally Challenge to receive the special rate of $85/night for Thursday through Saturday nights. Note above that the rally on Sunday will end about 1 hour away, closer to the Baltimore/Washington areas. Baltimore-Washington airport is the best logistical option. The other Washington area airports and Harrisburg, PA are also viable options.

STL Rally News - from the 100 Acre Wood Committee
Program Manager, Tom vanHatten:
Well, we've really got to get down to it-the 2011 Rally in the 100 Acre Wood is only a little more than 6 months away!
I know...it sounds like a long time from now, doesn't it? Plenty of time to get everything done, and, hey, there's not really all that much to do right away, is there? As Steve Mizerany used to say, "Don't be fooled!"
We've really been working on the 2011 100 Acre Wood for a good part of the LAST six months, even before we ran this year's edition back in February! Being a part of a national championship series is no small undertaking
What have we done so far?
--we have the preliminary rally route all laid out and have a pretty good idea about what is going to happen, and when
--we've been in contact with three of the four county governments we deal with each year that let us use some sections of their back roads to make up the thrilling special stages that are the heart of the 100 Acre Wood
--we've been talking with some of the municipal governments that we work with in Salem, Viburnum, Steelville, and Potosi to work to improve local participation in the rally
--we've discussed what went right (and what went wrong) with the 2010 rally, and figured out ways to help improve things for next February, especially regarding amenities and protection for spectators that come out to the woods to see rally cars at speed-at organized spectator points, of course
--we've started conversations with other regional forces to try and improve overall visibility for the rally in the greater St. Louis area
--we've started figuring out where we will make appearances down in the rally area during other county and city celebrations, and what charitable works we can do for the local communities as part of our 2011 rally activities
Now we're going to start gathering the committee together on a more and more frequent basis for the next 6 months, making the myriad number of contacts with county commissions, local law enforcement, emergency service organizations, chambers of commerce, local county and municipal business organizations, and people that live along the rally route to make the 2011 Rally in the 100 Acre Wood an even better event than the 2010 edition. It's almost like a second full-time job for some of the committee members, and is a lot of work for the rest at various times throughout the year.
There's a lot of work that goes into putting on this event every year, and we can always use a few more hands to make the load that much lighter for the rest of the rally committee.
The places that will really require manpower and planning this year are the spectator points out in the forest along the stages. This year we more than doubled, even tripled the number of spectators that came out to view the rally, with 1000-1500 spectators at our Friday and Saturday Parcs Expose and Rally Starts in Viburnum and Salem, over 2000 spectators in Potosi to watch the "super-special" stage at Lions' Park, and averaged over 500 people out in the woods at each of the eight on-course spectator points during the rally. That's a lot of people to direct, watch over, and keep safe, a lot of traffic to direct and cars to park (as we can), and a lot of people wanting to buy food, t-shirts, pins, and get Travis Pastrana or Ken Block to autograph that t-shirt once they've purchased it.
If this sounds like I'm pushing hard for more bodies to help us staff the rally, you're right. The massive increase in spectator attendance if telling me that coming to the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood has become a must-do for lots of "action-sports" fans-and that the crowds aren't going to get smaller any time soon. That means we need to grow as well to help give those fans the excitement they've come to see, but still keep them safe as well as happy.
If you want to take part in getting things ready for the last weekend of February 2011, now's as good a time as any to contact me, Curt Faigle, Rob Wright, or anyone else on the 100 Acre Wood Rally Committee to see how you can help us become a better rally each year. Do it now...we've only got 6 months before it's rally time in south-central Missouri-and there's so much to do before then!

2010 Runoffs to be Broadcast Live
|
TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 6, 2010) - Sports Car Club of America, Inc. announced today that the 2010 SCCA National Championship Runoffs Presented by Subway will again have all 24 races broadcast live world wide, on the Internet through SpeedcastTV.com.
For the second-straight year, anyone with an Internet connection will be able to catch the drama as the best amateur road racers in North America fight for the coveted National Championship in a one race, winner-take-all event that has often been referred to as the "Olympics" of motorsports. After four days of qualifying, some 650 drivers are expected to fight for Championships in 28 different classes at Road America, Sept. 24-26.
"The feedback from the 2009 event coverage was tremendous and we committed to continue the relationship with Speedcast before the year was out," SCCA VP of Marketing & Communications Eric Prill said. "As a collective group, we're taking our experience and putting it toward improving the overall product and its delivery."
The biggest change will be the expansion to two announce crews. Sports car racing fans will recognize the familiar voices of veteran Runoffs announcers Greg Creamer, Dorsey Schroeder, Jim Tretow and John Bisignano throughout the broadcast. Current Runoffs racer Bart Wolf joins as the fifth member of the broadcast team and will work the booth as an analyst alongside Creamer.
"We're thrilled to have such experienced, knowledgeable and entertaining personalities to call the Runoffs action," Prill said. "Last year, we put a lot of pressure on one announce team to do all 24 races. They rose to that challenge, but with two teams, and the experience these gentlemen bring to the program, we know the 2010 broadcast will be a memorable one."
From a technical standpoint, the broadcasts will move to the Adobe® Flash® format, making it easier than ever for fans to view the action, be it on a PC or Macintosh operating system.
"I'm thrilled to offer the SCCA Runoffs on SpeedcastTV for the second year in a row," Speedcast Productions President Clark Cambern said. "The Runoffs live webcast was our most popular show in 2009, and we've been working hard with our partners at the SCCA to ensure that this year's coverage is even better."
As was the case in 2009, all 24 races will be aired live through SpeedcastTV.com beginning Friday, Sept. 24 and concluding Sunday, Sept. 26. In the weeks following the live broadcasts, each race will be posted to the Speedcast site for free On Demand viewing. Finally, a full DVD set of the races will again be available later in the year.
The 2009 SCCA National Championship Runoffs races are still available at www.speedcasttv.com/scca. That same page will go live with the 2010 event Friday, Sept. 24 at 8:15 a.m. (Central).
