News from the Board of Directors Meeting

These
are some highlights, the Official minutes are available at www.stlscca.org
Club Racing program is still struggling with low entries to 2010 races, as it has for the last several years.  The good news is that the recent school graduated 5 new racers

SCCA Block

Congratulations to the new Club Race Competition license holders that are St. Louis Region SCCA Region members.  These members "graduated" this weekend at Gateway Raceway!

Sean Maloney, St. Charles
Dave Montgomery, St. Louis
Jeff Roettering, Union
Bruce Stephens, Wentzville
Tim Weatherford, Maplewood

The monthly Socials have been a success and new members are attending and joining the region at many of them. Spazio's has been a great facility for this as everyone remarks on the good food and reasonable prices.

The European Car show was discussed and the Board weighed the benefits for our club doing car shows this year. The board decided that our membership drive, exposure efforts and charity efforts were already committed to other ideas for 2010. These plans were made at our budget meeting early this year and car shows were discussed at this time. The events the BoD chose to go with for 2010 are proving to be successful for the region.   At this time the BoD decided to stay on course with decisions and plans already made.

Membership is growing and we are at the top of the list in SCCA Regions with growth and retention.  The efforts towards growing made this year have been great. Solo has signed up members at almost all of their events this year.

The BoD decided to do a Mid Year Financial review with each program at their July 19th Meeting.  Program managers and Program Treasurers are being requested to attend.

The August 16th Board meeting the BoD is inviting our Webmaster, Jamie Leavell and our Program Managers to attend to explain Google Wave to all of us to see it's benefits for the region communications.

Elections will be November 15th and nominations are open to all members over the age if 16.  Some of the current Board Members are planning on running again.  Some for the same positions, some for different ones. A few other members have already expressed interest in running.  If you are interested in being part of the Board Management Team that oversees the Regions programs, the business of the Region, the communications and the Region social activities please contact the Board at [email protected]

What qualifications are needed?  Management, financial, business, communications, computer, people, organizational, social skills are always welcome along with a desire to help the St. Louis Region.
Time needed to do the job? Some members spend a few hours a week and some more.

We will MAKE IT EASY to learn about Solo Suspendion with Dave Whitworth

Solo Suspension Discussion

From Dave Whitworth, Solo Suspension Presenter.  This "Back by Popular Demand Program" from several years ago will show you the tips and tricks that Dave had learned from many years of solo suspension success and even the painful lessons of things that didn't work so well.  Dave has just finished his NEW Solo EM car and will bring it to show everyone the things he is talking about. You won't want to miss this up close and personal discussion.

Dave Whitworth EM

So... You say, " what is a social?"
Well it is NOT A BORING MEETING. It is face to face time for friendship with others who enjoy having and nurturing a sports car addiction.  It is 12 steps of how to grow that addiction with current and possibly new friends.

It is a "hello", it is a "what tires are you going to use this season?" It is a place to talk about your new car, or ask others how to set up your shocks. Or it is a time and place to invite that co-worker that is interested in cars to meet others with the same interests.

Think of it as a time and place to come, maybe have dinner, maybe have a drink or a cookie, maybe bring the kids (of all ages) and see some car friends.

It is informal. No dress code, no membership required, just a friendly smile and some car talk.

The Region will offer a BIT of info IF anyone wants it or needs it. But, we promise NO BORING MEETING JUNK. Mostly it is a place to come and do a little bench racing, enjoy some friendship, maybe see an old friend or maybe even make a new friend.  So come on by on the 3rd Monday of each month

Street Survival

October 30, 2010 at Gateway Raceway!

Mark your calendar for one of the most important things the St. Louis Region is doing for our community!

Instructors will be needed and the call for the Pre Event Instructors Class will be announced.  It will be just a few weeks before the event is held.

The Tire Rack Street Survival Teen Driving School - Car control instruction designed to provide teen drivers with accident avoidance skills and knowledge. It's not just about Driving, It's about Living....

The leading cause of death among 13-19 year olds in the US is from a motor vehicle crash. 62% of teenage passenger deaths in 2004 occurred in vehicles driven by another teenager. Teenagers cause 2.5 million accidents per year. In 2007 that resulted in over 6,000 deaths of teens.

If you have a teen driver at home or know someone who does, then those sobering statistics should be of concern. Recent and well publicized national stories have brought to light the tragedy of teen injury and death caused by traffic accidents. The stories often mention how the teen driver "lost control and over-corrected..." causing a tragic accident of some kind.

The Tire Rack Street Survival Teen Driving School will be a great community effort for the St. Louis Region, SCCA

 Racing at GIR

We held a Double Drivers School/Double Regional on May 14-16.  Entry count was extremely low for this event.  We got about what we expected for the School but our Regional driver count was much lower than we expected.  Worker count was ok overall, F&C is continuing to struggle to be sufficiently staffed but we made the weekend work.  The weather continued to give us fits this year with rain most of the weekend.  Despite the weather, everybody had a good time from the workers to the participants.  The St. Louis Region now has 5 more licensed club racers after this weekend.  We have passed on our appreciation to KVRG and AVRG for all their help on putting on this race, both with worker support and financial support.

We just opened registration for our next race.  We are holding a Regional/National/IT Tour on July 31-August 1 at Gateway.  In addition to our normal weekend, we are trying out a "Challenge" race for SRF's on Sunday.  It is an attempt to attract more drivers by trying to give them a dedicated session and some solid competition.  We are going to hold our 4th annual DASH race on Saturday afternoon.  This race continues to be a fun event for competitors and workers and we are looking forward to another fun weekend.

Precision Driving Xperience (PDX)

The Committee discusses the possiblity of including some local car clubs to come and have a small car show at the Aug. 21, 2010 event. If you know of a club that might want to attend and BBQ, have a great social event at for free lot rental and be able to watch cars on the GIR road course contact our program manager, Jose Hernandez.

All of us have done the burn-out at a red light, or taken that curve at more than the "suggested speed," imagining ourselves as racers while never leaving our street cars. With these events, you don't have to dream anymore!

PDX's are about you, the driver. Plenty of seat time, plenty of individual instruction and a ton of driving exercises make up these events held at Gateway Raceway on the 1.6 mile Road Course; both of which is designed to educate you and make you more confident behind the wheel, both on the track and on the street.

A Precision Driving Experience (PDX) is an opportunity to work with an instructor and get practic.
A Precision Driving Experience (PDX) is an opportunity to work with an instructor and get practice in car handling and precision driving in your own car on the 1.6-mile road course at Gateway International Raceway. This is a non-competitive, un-timed event. Drivers are grouped by prior experience. For safety, drivers are required to wear a helmet, long sleeve shirt and long pants.
