Region News
News from the Board of Directors Meeting

These are some highlights, the Official minutes are available at www.stlscca.org

Tech-O-Rama -  Dave Jones  and Julia Briggen presented ending financials for the event.  The final cost was $365.78 which is well within the $500 budget previously approved by the BoD.  The BoD would like to make the Tech-O-Rama an annual event.  We would prefer to have it in February and to start planning it earlier than this year. The donation to Backstopper was made.  There was discussion about how to use the "worker fund" money.  Terry Gilven of Hoosier would like to figure out how to grow the fund, and find ways to share it across the programs.  Dave said he would get back to the BoD on the "worker fund" ideas.

The entire Board felt this event was a GREAT Region Event!  The Board would like to formally thank Dave and Julia for all their hard work!  Thanks to both of them!

Street Survival-  Kevin Brown has volunteered to chair a Tirerack Street Survival School.  The committee is Bob Mondschein, Dana Hullinger,  Steve Slotten, Carla Ruso, Jose Hernandez, Rich Wise, Jan Rick and Chuck Deprow.  They had a productive meeting on March 29 with Tom Allen, Chairman of the BMW school.  The committee will shadow the BMW Club's Street Survival School on May 22.  TireRack/SCCA Foundation pays a lot of the costs of the school.  Sponsors are being pursued to pay for lunches are other expenses.  Date is October 30.

Region Bumper Stickers-  The region has ordered 1000 St. Louis Region Stickers to be given out at socials and events.  These have the region website on them.

Elections for 2010 Board- The Board is already planning for the elections to be held Nov. 15, 2010.  Anyone interested in running may contact the Board now at [email protected]

Drifting- The St. Louis Region has a new program, Drfiting.  This new group is lead by new member, Scott Rose and will be mentored by the PDX Committee this year.  The PDX gropp has offered the drifting group a test day during a PDX event.  It was held May 8. For more info see the newest program column below

BIG NEWS - The St. Louis Region has grown from 542 members (on 1/1/10) to over 600 as of now

SCCA Block

Make it Easy, Make it Fun Socials - No Boring Meeting!
The St. Louis Region Monthly
MAKE IT EASY, MAKE IT FUN Socials
The St. Louis Region SCCA Make it Easy, Make it Fun Socials at
Spazio's,
  EVERY 3rd Monday EACH MONTH,
12931 Lackland Road, 314-576-0400.

There are NOT meetings, but Socials!
 They are EASY & FUN!
"Make it Easy, Make it Fun with STL Region SCCA" - Social, Dinner (if you chose, come right from work, Spazio's is open all afternoon).
So... You say, " what is a social?"
Well it is NOT A BORING MEETING. It is face to face time for friendship with others who enjoy having and nurturing a sports car addiction.  It is 12 steps of how to grow that addiction with current and possibly new friends.

It is a "hello", it is a "what tires are you going to use this season?" It is a place to talk about your new car, or ask others how to set up your shocks. Or it is a time and place to invite that co-worker that is interested in cars to meet others with the same interests.

Think of it as a time and place to come, maybe have dinner, maybe have a drink or a cookie, maybe bring the kids (of all ages) and see some car friends.

It is informal. No dress code, no membership required, just a friendly smile and some car talk.

The Region will offer a BIT of info IF anyone wants it or needs it. But, we promise NO BORING MEETING JUNK. Mostly it is a place to come and do a little bench racing, enjoy some friendship, maybe see an old friend or maybe even make a new friend.  So come on by on the 3rd Monday of each month.

We will MAKE IT EASY to learn all about Data Aquisition with  Dave Jones
 Fun with Data Aquisition!
From Dave Jones, Data Acquisition Presenter.  We will set a small course in the parking lot at Spazio's, install a data logger in someone's car, and have them drive slow laps around the course, trying different brake points, turn-in points, etc. Then we will take that data and open in on the screen for everyone to see. We will go through the easy steps we would use if this were an autocross or a road course, looking for clues about the car, the driver, and how to improve each. When we're done, you'll see how easy it is to install and gather data, and how valuable data can be to improve at the track. If there is interest, we'll hold more advanced sessions on other evenings.

June 21, 2010
We will MAKE IT EASY to learn about Solo Suspendion with Dave Whitworth
Solo Suspension Discussion

From Dave Whitworth, Solo Suspension Presenter.  This "Back by Popular Demand Program" from several years ago will show you the tips and tricks that Dave had learned from many years of solo suspension success and even the painful lessons of things that didn't work so well.  Dave has just finished his NEW Solo EM car and will bring it to show everyone the things he is talking about. You won't want to miss this up close and personal discussion.

SCCA Street Survival Event - Kevin Brown

October 30, 2010 at Gateway Raceway!

Mark you calendar if you can spare some time for one of the most important things the St. Louis Region is doing for our community!
If you have a teen driver at home or know someone who does, then those sobering statistics should be of concern. Recent and well publicized national stories have brought to light the tragedy of teen injury and death caused by traffic accidents. The stories often mention how the teen driver "lost control and over-corrected..." causing a tragic accident of some kind.

The Tire Rack Street Survival Teen Driving School will be a great community effort for the St.Louis Region, SCCA

We are looking forward to our Double School/Double Regional with Time Trials this coming weekend May 14-16 at Gateway.  The entry for this weekend is looking a little light but we are hoping that we end up with a decent entry and we get a good crowd of drivers and workers.  The weekend gets underway with the Time Trials on track on Friday morning.  The Drivers School will get underway with classroom on Friday morning and then the students will take to the track Friday afternoon.  The Drivers School will continue through the day on Saturday ending the day with an exclusive practice session for students and instructors.  Sunday will be a Double Regional with one qualifying session and one race for each group prior to lunch and then one qualifying session and one race for each group after lunch.  We hope to see you all at the track this weekend.

Our final event of the year will be a Regional/National/IT Tour on July 31 - August 1 at Gateway.  Mark your calendars now; we will be opening registration for drivers and workers soon.

The newest program of the St. Louis Region held it's 1st event at Gateway (on the south paddock in the infield) as a test on May 8.  The PDX Committee shared the facility as part of "mentoring" this program.  7 drivers attended and it was a GREAT Time for all! The committee is working on the next event.

Precision Driving Xperience (PDX)

All of us have done the burn-out at a red light, or taken that curve at more than the "suggested speed," imagining ourselves as racers while never leaving our street cars. With these events, you don't have to dream anymore!

PDX's are about you, the driver. Plenty of seat time, plenty of individual instruction and a ton of driving exercises make up these events held at Gateway Raceway on the 1.6 mile Road Course; both of which is designed to educate you and make you more confident behind the wheel, both on the track and on the street.

A Precision Driving Experience (PDX) is an opportunity to work with an instructor and get practice in car handling and precision driving in your own car on the 1.6-mile road course at Gateway International Raceway. This is a non-competitive, un-timed event. Drivers are grouped by prior experience. For safety, drivers are required to wear a helmet, long sleeve shirt and long pants.

Gateway is no longer available for PDX Events. The group is looking for alternate fields to use.

They hope to have one picked out by the summer in order to continue the season.

Upcoming Events: Six events were planned for the year. April 24th, May 22nd, June 12th, July 24-25, October 3rd, October 31st with a rain date of possibly November 6th. The first event date has already passed and the May 22nd date is in doubt since we have yet to find a new location.  Most likely we'll be down to 3 or 4 events for the year.
