 TJX Outstanding Volunteer Award Recipient:

Rochele Charlery

volunteer

The TJX Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes volunteers who make significant contributions to BCNC.

Rochelle has been volunteering as a after school tutor for middle school students since March 2011 and she already plans to return to volunteer with us after her study abroad in South Korea next year. Despite being a full-time student at UMass Boston and having a part-time job, she manages to volunteer with us twice a week and has rarely been absent. Rochele has been an extraordinary volunteer, always doing beyond what is expected of her. She successfully balances the different roles of mentor, tutor, and friend when working with the youth. Rochele works with multiple students at once and finds creative ways for them to experience learning in a more fun and interactive way. She has established great rapport with her students and unconditionally gives 110% in helping her students on their academics. Her great sense of humor, caring personality, and open-mindedness really makes Rochele a great role model to the youth that she works with!

whitehouse BCNC White House Update!

Twelve youth, along with BCNC staff and Boston Public School teachers, went to the White House last week to receive the Champions of Change award. During the trip, they had an exclusive tour of the White House and visited museums and monuments in Washington, DC. They were interviewed by media, including China Central Television (CCTV) and The Callie Crossley Radio Show.

Thanks to everyone for your generous donation to support their trip.

If you did not catch them live, visit our website for the YouTube videos. You can also find their student-run website with updated pictures, videos, and press from their trip to D.C.

Correction

In our previous newsletter, we incorrectly quoted $250,000 as our raised amount from the Chinese New Year's Banquet, the correct figure is $227,000. BCNC apologizes for the mistake.

Thank You!

Many thanks to the Blossom Fund and the Hyams Foundations for their generous support.
