Meet Marlon Esguerra

Team BCNC Boston Marathon Runner

Bernard Harkless

"There is no race like the Boston Marathon, but I'd run anything from a 5k to an ultramarathon if it benefits an organization like BCNC."

Marlon Esguerra will be representing Team BCNC at the 2012 Boston Marathon thanks to the John Hancock Non-Profit Marathon Program. Click here to read more about Marlon.  Will you sponsor Marlon and help him reach his goals? Click here to make a donation!

 TJX Outstanding Volunteer Award Recipient:

Zhang Qi Zhang

Grandma Zhang

The TJX Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes volunteers who make significant contributions to BCNC.

Grandma Zhang has been a full-time volunteer for 8 years. The BCNC staff and children call her Grandma, an endearing term that tells us she's a caring, devoted and loving individual to everyone around her. Grandma Zhang was an experienced elementary school teacher in China and now continues to live out her heart for children and education. Thank you Grandma Zhang for the invaluable work you give to our children!

BCNC won White House video challenge!    BCNC youth win scholarships

Thank you to everyone who voted for BCNC's video submitted in the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders challenge.

From over 200 entries and with 11,000 votes, our own BCNC Youth Center youth have been recognized as one of the winners. This amazing success has given our youth the opportunity to go to the White House for a live streaming ceremony on April 5th!

We now need your support to raise $8,000 for the cost of the trip for all 12 youth involved in the video to go on a once in a lifetime trip to the White House.  Please consider making a donation and spreading the word about sending these deserving students to Washington.

Jung Chang discussed Wild Swans

In collaboration with the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), BCNC hosted a full-house discussion on February 18 with Jung Chang, the author of Wild Swans. The book has sold over 13 million copies in over 36 languages, and takes readers on a harrowing journey of one family during Mao's Cultural Revolution.

The book was adapted to a play by A.R.T. and premiered in Cambridge, MA. Over 100 guests also joined us on Sunday, February 26th, for a BCNC Day to see the play.

Energy Upgrade  Bamboo Circle bowl for youth

Partnering with NSTAR Small Business Solutions program, BCNC upgraded all the lighting fixtures in our 38 Ash Street building. Not only providing significant savings on our electric and light bulb replacement bills, the new lighting fixtures have enhanced photo metrics, whereby producing more direct light and less CO2 emissions. The new cooler colored light bulbs (3,500k v. 5000k) are designed to help with SAD (seasonal affective disorder), producing a better simulation of daylight to provide light therapy.

BCNC is the first and only green building in Chinatown, which is Silver LEED certified by the US Green Building Council.
