Lion Dance for Kids

Adult Education graduate receives scholarship
Manbik Chan received the First Literacy Scholarship for her educational achievements and community involvement. She graduated from the Adult Education program in 2010 and currently attends Bunker Hill Community College, studying early childhood development. Manbik continues to give back and is now volunteering with BCNC Family Services!

High school students learn English at BCNC
BCNC was a site for the Boston Public Schools' English Language Learners Summer Enrichment Academy. Fifty high school students participated in English and Math classes, and enrichment activities at the Youth Center. For their final project, students created a booklet which showcases their writing and photography. Check out this blog which showcases their reflections after they studied how sensory imagery is used to enhance writing.

Celebrating in Quincy
At the annual Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. August Moon Festival, BCNC collected surveys from families to learn more about needs of the community. We also gave out raffle prizes and balloons for the children.

Children and parents make special art
With the Museum of Fine Arts, Family Services organized a Special Arts group for children with special needs and their parents. Through art activities themed around nature, children learned communication, fine motor and concentration skills. For their last session, the group made a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts together.

Youth design a public space in Chinatown
In partnership with Urban Neighborhood Design Alliance, this summer, 10 BCNC youth studied architecture, designed models for a public space and created brochures introducing Chinatown. Special thanks to the Boston Foundation for Architecture for their support for this program. Check out pictures of their work!
