October's TJX Outstanding Volunteer Award Recipient: Joyce Wu

Joyce Wu has been volunteering with BCNC the last few years by providing graphic design. Since 2008, she designed the annual Chinese New Year banquet invitation and program book. The banquet usually has a very tight timeline and Joyce would spend evenings and weekends to work with us and meet deadlines. She is currently helping to design a bilingual brochure for BCNC. She is professional, easy to work with and open to suggestions and ideas. Joyce puts in her time, creativity and commitment to help BCNC.

Elaine Ng awarded prestigious Barr Fellowship
We are proud to announce our Executive Director, Elaine Ng, has been awarded a Barr Foundation fellowship in recognition of her work with children, youth and families. She is one of 12 Boston leaders to receive the fellowship. The Barr Fellows Program honors the contributions of the most gifted and experienced leaders in the Boston area. Read more . . .

East meets West: Healthy Cooking
In October, Family Services held a weekly Healthy Cooking Class for immigrant parents. Each week, parents learned nutrition and how to cook healthy American foods for their families. Check out this video on the class.

Comcast Day of Service 
On October 19th, BCNC welcomed volunteers from Comcast for a day of service. BCNC appreciated how Comcast employees helped organize the Early Education and Adult Education library and read to children in the Acorn Center for Early Education and Care. Check out photos here.

Senator Chang-Diaz commends BCNC as fantastic investment

On October 20th, the Board hosted a reception to thank our Red Envelope Circle, a group of leadership donors who, through their support, show commitment to building a stronger community. Guest speaker Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz hailed BCNC as a premier organization and noted, "BCNC is a vital link for the immigrant communities to ease their transition to new lives in the US and your donation to BCNC is a fantastic investment you can make that guarantees positive returns." Join BCNC and Nancy Berliner, Curator of Chinese Art and Culture, for a private 3-course lunch and discussion of the new exhibit Treasures from the Forbidden City. After the lunch, enjoy a free self-guided tour of the exhibit of ninety objects of ceremony and leisure from the private realm of the Qianlong Emperor (r.1736-1796), from the Forbidden City.

Fresh Ink: Ten Takes on Chinese Tradition

For the Love of Art: A Conversation with Yu Hong and Liu Xiaodong
