August's TJX Outstanding Volunteer Award Recipient: Sue Ponte
| Sue Ponte, GNP, has been volunteering for 20 years
at BCNC's Acorn Center for Early Education and Care. Despite her busy schedule at Tufts Medical Center as the
Director of Asian Pediatric and Adolescent
Clinical Services, she finds time to work with BCNC teachers, parents and children.
She shares valuable medical advice and workshops with parents in Chinese and
understands their cultural practices. "I have the expertise and I want to share
it with the community," said Sue with a smile. Sue is well respected and trusted by
families in the Chinatown community. It is not unusual for parents to come up to her
at restaurants and grocery stores asking for medical advice.

Supporting youth and families to save for college
In partnership with Families United in Educational Leadership (FUEL), BCNC started a College Savings program to help low-income families
save for college and understand the college process. Twenty youth will attend workshops, receive
individual guidance and go on campus tours. Parents will attend monthly
meetings to learn about the college process and save towards
higher education for their youth. After participating, their savings will be
matched one to one when the youth enters college!
