SALMONCHANTED IN FULL SWING
Have you seen a heron today?
Gig Harbor welcomes the return of SalmonChanted Harbor! But this year there is a new twist...those salmon look suspiciously like heron and they are now on display at 15 locations around historic downtown Gig Harbor.
Organizers of the third annual art event decided to shake it up in 2010, with heron sculptures instead of salmon. The heron is a bird frequently seen in and around the waters of Gig Harbor bay and other bays and estuaries in the area.
Each artist has created a different theme heron and each piece of art is displayed at a different location throughout historic Gig Harbor now through early September. The heron will then be auctioned at the SalmonChanted Evening event, scheduled for September 18th at the Gig Harbor Yacht Club. To find out where the heron are placed and more information on the artists visit www.salmonchantedharbor.org. Also join the scavenger hunt with gigharborguide.com on Facebook and win fun prizes! |

PAY IT FORWARD, HERE IS A WAY TO DO IT
Have you been participating in the 3/50 project? I sure hope so! Here is another way to support local businesses, artisits and help local shops increase traffic. And it's FUN!
It called "FEEL GOOD FREE ART PROJECT" and it is the idea of local artist Jeni Woock. In an effort to help struggling businesses, and utilizing small pieces of small art donated by local artists, she came up it: 'The free art gets placed in a business. Anyone visiting the business and discovers this little piece of free art... gets this art as a surprise gift. The recipient feels good about the free gift. So good, in fact, that perhaps they will spend a little more time and money with the business. Perhaps they will tell their friends about what happened in the business. When art is placed in a business a photograph is also taken of the art and that photo is placed on the blog site:
The blog is then sent to many people who may also visit the business, perhaps looking for the free piece of art. While looking for this art, they are visiting your business and spending time.'
This is FREE -- HELP GET THIS PROGRAM ROLLING.... artists are needed -- businesses are needed to place the free art! Jeni can be reached at jeniawoock@gmail.com or 253-851-1619. |
