When you make an appointment with Faces First's Dr. Christopher Cote you will be seeing one of the best plastic surgeons in the country. Plastic Surgery Practice magazine's Best of 2011 list, to be published in December, honors Dr. Cote as a leader among his peers.

Dr. Cote spent 12 years in the U.S. Army treating soldiers injured in Iraq and Afghanistan, and he knows the profound impact that facial plastic surgery can have on patients. "I have always wanted to help others feel better about themselves," says Dr. Cote. His experience in the military only made him more empathetic to patients. "Every patient I see has a unique need or circumstance that ultimately impacts their self-esteem-whether it is a disease state, related to an accident or injury, or simply a desire to improve upon what nature provided."

Dr. Cote's impressive resume includes education at Oxford, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and Tufts and roles such as Chief of Otolaryngology for U.S. Forces in Korea, Chief of Facial Plastic Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and otolaryngology consultant to the White House Medical Unit. He holds a rare double board certification in Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery. Add his extensive qualifications to his commitment to care, and it is easy to understand why he is at the top of his field.

There's a new kid on the block-Xeomin, the latest botulinum toxin type A injection product approved by the FDA to treat the deep lines between the eyebrows. Unlike Botox and Dysport, Xeomin doesn't contain any additives, which lessens the chance that patients will become resistant to it.

Incredibly smooth skin, less noticeable wrinkles and scars, facial hair ("peach fuzz") removal, and a radiant glow-did you know you can get all of these from a lunch-hour treatment? This is dermaplaning, a new skin resurfacing treatment that offers a number of advantages to patients. It is chemical-free, and thus good for patients with sensitive skin; treatments are short and can have a cumulative effect (the skin looks better each time); and it can actually help make other skincare treatments more effective.

Dermaplaning is performed by skilled practitioners who carefully pull sections of skin taut and gently exfoliate it with a special blade. This removes the top layers of dead and damaged skin, leaving the skin below incredibly smooth and radiant looking. Although the procedure might sound a little worrisome, it is actually extremely safe when performed by a trained professional. At Faces First, dermaplaning is performed by our highly trained paramedical aesthetician, Elizabeth Whatley, who has been working in skin care since 1997.
