CLIENTS' CORNER

Introducing "Virtual Facelift" technology at facesfirst.com . . .

See your face after cosmetic surgery, without ever leaving your computer!

Go to www.facesfirst.com to get your own pre-surgical simulation with FaceTouchUp before your consultation with our surgeons.

Faces First is excited to provide the latest technology that helps patients visualize the results of many common facial plastic surgery procedures.

"The fact that this technology is personalized and customized to each patient is what makes it so effective. People can see the results of a particular procedure on their own face, not someone else's, so they can have fun with it and get a sense of what they would really look like." says Dr. Picerno.

Here's how FaceTouchUp technology works:

1) Upload a photo of your face to the website.

2) Click and drag your mouse over the feature that you wish to alter.

Client Testimonial
"I did the online simulation on photos of myself from the comfort of my own home and in my own time. Now that I like what I see, I've made my decision! I can even print out my results and bring them along to my surgical consultation so I can communicate with my surgeon exactly what I'm looking for!

A NOSE FOR EVERY FACE at Faces First

"If you could change one thing about your face, what would it be?"

If you answered "My nose", you've just joined 1 in 5 Americans (or 20%) who answered the same! No surprise, as the nose is the central point of the face.

A beautiful nose can transform a face and often defines how others 'see' you.

"Your nose should be in harmony with the rest of your face."

This June, Faces First presents you with two ways
to explore how cosmetic nose reshaping can change the appearance or better the functionality of your nose:
  1. Complimentary Nose Reshaping Consultation ($100 Value ) with Dr. Cote
  2. Visit Faces First online at www.facesfirst.com and check out Denver's first Virtual Facelift (Nose Reshaping) Tool called FaceTouchUp (please read "Client's Corner" for more Virtual Facelift/FaceTouchUp details)
If you thought you knew everything about nose jobs...

"Your nose is not simply a fixture on your face but a functioning organ that is part of your respiratory system.  It warms, cleanses and humidifies the air you breathe." notes Dr. Christopher Cote. "Therefore, the surgeon you choose to change the shape of your nose should also understand the effects that will have on the function of your nose. For example, if you desire to make your nose smaller and more fitting to your face, you want to be sure that your breathing passages remain open." The double board-certified and fellowship-trained surgeons at Faces First are experienced at complex nasal airway reconstruction, as well as the detailed aesthetic techniques of a facial plastic surgeon. Form and function can and do come together at Faces First.

COSMETIC NOSE RESHAPING FACTS
  1. Rhinoplasty (Nose reshaping surgical procedure) is the 2nd most common facial cosmetic procedure in the United States.
  2. As of 2009, rhinoplasty was performed on over 200,000 patients a year.
  3. Many people seek rhinoplasty surgery for a variety of reasons, such as:
    • to improve breathing,
    • to change the nose they were born with,
    • to fix the nose due to age changes, or because of an injury.
If you are considering rhinoplasty, you should seek the services of an experienced facial plastic surgeon that also has an ear, nose and throat (ENT) background. This added experience with the facial areas and nasal passages helps to ensure that your surgeon understands how rhinoplasty impacts both the look and functionality of your nose, and can explain to you what to anticipate based on these expectations.  "Achieving the result you want is a combination of having realistic goals, a successful healing period and some patience." remarks Dr. Cote. "The techniques we use at Faces First take a structural approach to the nose that respects the wound healing process and optimizes the ultimate outcome."

Since every person's nose is unique and different, you should seek a procedure that is tailored to your specific needs.  Some patients desire subtle refinements that may make a big difference, while others have complex issues or may require revision surgery in order to correct a previous deformity. This outpatient procedure can take anywhere from 1-4 hours, depending on what is being done.

Nasal rhinoplasty is considered by experienced surgeons one of the most complex facial cosmetic procedures due to many factors.  The wound healing process is to be respected and your surgeon should monitor this with frequent follow-up visits and adjunctive treatments to minimize bruising and swelling. Patients are well advised to follow their surgeon's post-procedure instructions to the letter to ensure proper healing.

What About Non-Surgical Nosejobs?
The idea of a non-surgical nose job has gained increased awareness due to the recent popularity of non-invasive facial fillers.  However, anyone interested in this procedure should be very cautious about having someone inject a filler into their nose. A board certified facial plastic surgeon should always be consulted before having anything like this done.  Taking this approach will assure you have the safest, most satisfying outcome.  It's your face!  Treat it carefully.

Rhinoplasty Enhancements

For some patients undergoing rhinoplasty surgery, the surgeon might recommend other procedures as a way to enhance the rhinoplasty itself. Once the nose is reshaped and fits the face better, the eyes may need to be lifted or altered so that they are not "lost" in the face or dominated by the nose. Or perhaps the revision of a long, overhanging nose might make the chin more prominent, thus requiring a chin augmentation to balance the face. "We have a brand new tool to help our patients to visualize how their face would look with rhinoplasty and other enhancements, without ever going under the knife, called FaceTouchUp." says Dr. Cote. "This interactive program uses photos of the client's own face and lets them play with alterations to find just what they are looking for. Then the client and the surgeon can team up to chart the best possible results, while managing expectations. We are very pleased to provide our clients with this service to help them be an integral part of their entire procedure."

Ask the Nose Reshaping Surgeon

Q. What happens to the nose as a person ages?

A. As we age, the skin of the nose becomes thicker and the nose "drops". What happens is the tip's attachment to the dorsum (or top of the nose) weakens, and the tip starts falling. This gives the appearance that one is developing a "hump" or "bump". However, this is usually a "relative bump", meaning that it is a bump relative to the lower tip of the nose. With a minor soft rhinoplasty, the tip of the nose is lifted into a more youthful position, causing the bump to disappear. This can be done without touching the nasal bones, and heals very quickly either as an isolated procedure or with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as an eyelift, chin augmentation, or cheek lift. Sometimes, the tip is also refined at the same time as it is lifted.

Q. How does rhinoplasty change my face?

A. Rhinoplasty is used to refurbish or reshape the nose. Whether the issue is birth defect, injury, or age-related changes, rhinoplasty can help provide balance and proportion to your nose and face. It can enhance the eyes and accentuate other portions of the face to provide more aesthetic balance and harmony. But rhinoplasty is not just for looks. It can also help to correct more serious conditions such as breathing problems or speech errors due to nasal blockage.

Q. If I broke my nose years ago, can I still do something about it?

A. Yes. There are many reconstructive options for nasal deformities or damage such as a broken nose. You will need a rhinoplasty evaluation by a qualified surgeon to determine the extent of the damage and how best to repair it. Bone and cartilage can sometimes be moved or reshaped. Other times the defect can be built up or "camouflaged" with bone, cartilage, or other material.
