Lost Egypt: Ancient Secrets, 

Modern Science on Display Now
On Display Through September 5, 2011
Baylor University's Mayborn Museum will take you on a trip to ancient Egypt this summer. Lost Egypt: Ancient Secrets, Modern Science will be on display from May 28 to September 5, 2011 in the Thomas E. and Emilyne Weed Anding Traveling Exhibit Hall. The exhibit was created and produced by COSI, the Center of Science and Industry in Columbus, Ohio and built by the Science Museum of Minnesota.

Lost EgyptLost Egypt is an immersive quest for knowledge that reveals how archaeologists use modern science and technology to uncover and understand the ancient civilization of Egypt.

 

 

 

Special exhibit admission includes the entire museum and the Lost Egypt exhibit at $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and $5 for children.

Museum and exhibits are free to all museum members and Baylor University students.

    Experience Egypt Wednesdays
    To celebrate Lost Egypt, the Mayborn Museum will feature themed events each Wednesday from June 15 to August 10, 2011. Beginning June 15, 2011 with UnLock Egypt, visitors will be given the opportunity to engage, explore and enjoy through special activities planned by our amazing facilitators. Admission to the exhibit and the museum on these dates will be $5 per person.

    Special Events will be presented from 1:30pm to 4:30pm on the following dates:

    • June 15- UnLock Egypt
    • June 22- Look Like an Egyptian
    • June 29- Live Like an Egyptian
    • July 6- Learn Like an Egyptian
    • July 13- UnLock Egypt
    • July 20- Look Like an Egyptian
    • July 27- Live Like an Egyptian
    • August 3- Learn Like an Egyptian
    • August 10- Celebrate Summer

    Egypt Film Series
    Join us on Thursday evenings this summer starting June 16th through August 11th as we will feature documentaries as well as classic films about Egypt. Films will begin at 6:00pm and end by 8:00pm.

Volunteers Honored

Volunteers Honored

    On Saturday, May 21, two of the Mayborn Museum volunteers were honored for their service. Ralph Bowler received special recognition as one of the top 3 volunteers selected for the RSVP 2011 Humana Volunteer of the Year.

    Volunteers HonoredOmilou Miles was also chosen as one of the top 15 for her service. Both volunteers were recognized from a pool of over 1200 volunteers. Congratulations to these two very special folks.

     

     

 

 

 

Special Exhibit

    Chasing the Bone Pile: Highlights from the Baylor University Museum and the Strecker Museum Collections
    Chasing the Bone Pile The Baylor University Museum, now known as the Mayborn Museum Complex, has been in existence since 1893. This exhibit features highlights from the museum’s history, particularly when it was named the Strecker Museum from 1940 until 2002.
    Visitors will see some of the oldest and oddest specimens in the natural history collection, along with a wide variety of specimens representing fauna from Texas and the world. This exhibit will run through the summer. Chasing the Bone Pile
