Celebrating Dedication to the Mayborn Museum and Each Other
|
Volunteers make the world go ‘round at the Mayborn
Museum. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we would like to highlight our couples who volunteer together: Ralph and Janie
Bowler, Will and Marion Douglas, Dave and Dottie Fornoff, Dick and Jan Graves, Clark and Dorothy Griffin, Charlie and Nancy Moore, Bob and Joyce Packard, Bob and Lydia Smith. |
Most couples have volunteered since the new museum opened in 2004. Ralph and Janie Bowler’s combined service
reaches almost 800 hours. We truly appreciate their dedication not only to the museum but also to each other.
Artifact Spotlight
 |
This artifact is the key to the Waco Suspension Bridge. Built in 1870, the 475 foot bridge cost $130,000. At one time, it was the longest single-span suspension bridge in the world, and it originally collected tolls
mainly from cattle herders.
| The bridge triggered Waco’s economic boom and transformation
from frontier outpost to city. In 1971, the bridge retired to the rank of historical monument standing as an icon and
centerpiece of the Waco community. See if you can find the key in its current home in Strecker’s Cabinets of
Curiosities. |

Come see our newest additions: an Electric Blue Hermit Crab and a Spiny Blue Lobster. They are only babies, but come early and
often because they grow up very fast. | We also have a new
centipede, whose name means "hundred feet." But how many do they really have? Come and help us count them. | |
