Mayborn Museum Block Party
On Friday July 23, 2010 Baylor University's Mayborn
Museum celebrated another great summer with our LEGO® Castle Adventure “Block Party.” Museum members and guests were treated to an
assortment of hot appetizers, refreshing beverages, and a delightful “Building Block Sundae” throughout the evening.
The Mayborn Museum Block Party featured entertainment by Joe McDermott and many guests had their caricatures drawn by Kevin Middleton &
Friends. Below we present a glimpse from the evening.

LEGO® Castle Adventure Continues Through September 5th
Baylor University’s Mayborn Museum Complex invites you to visit the enchanted world of castles experienced through LEGO® bricks.
LEGO® Castle Adventure is now on display through September 5, 2010 in the Thomas E. and Emilyne Weed Anding Traveling Exhibition
Gallery at the Mayborn Museum Complex.
Special exhibit admission includes the entire museum and the LEGO® Castle Adventure exhibit at $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and
$5 for children.
Museum and exhibits are free to all museum members and Baylor University students.
Artifact Spotlight
Last month in our newsletter we told you about the shaffron, one of the pieces borrowed from the Higgins Armory Museum that are
included in the LEGO® Castle Adventure exhibit. One of the other loaned artifacts is a suit of child’s armor. Though this armor was
made in the 19th century, it was designed after the French style of the 1580s.

 |
A suit of armor was sometimes made for the sons of important nobility and usually matched those of their father. Their use indicated
great social standing and wealth, and authentic examples are quite rare. These youths did not go to war, but in being prepared for a
military career, were often provided with appropriate equipment. Such armor would have been worn for festive ceremonies, including mock
battles.
