Artifact Spotlight
To complement LEGO® Castle Adventure, the Mayborn has borrowed several authentic pieces of armor from the Higgins Armory Museum, America’s foremost arms and armory museum. One of the loaned artifacts is a shaffron, or armor for a horse’s head, that was made in Germany in the 16th century.

Shaffron

Shaffron Although its history and development generally paralleled that of armor for man—both employing the same materials (metal, leather, and textile) and decorative techniques—horse armor was generally rarer, being reserved mainly for the elite heavy cavalry.

2010 Lillian M. Brown Volunteer of the Year Award
This award is given annually to a museum volunteer in honor of Lillian M. Brown, who from 1948 to 1990 contributed thousands of volunteer hours identifying, cataloging, and preserving museum specimens, educating school children through museum summer classes, and welcoming visitors as a docent for the Strecker Museum.
