going to Texas map exhibit

The Mayborn Museum presents a new exhibit, “Going to Texas: Five Centuries of Texas Maps,” on display in the exhibit hallway next to the SBC Theater, July 3 through August 14, 2008.

Watch Texas history unfold in this fascinating exhibit of historic Texas maps. The maps range from 1548 to 2006 and cover a wide span of Texas and U.S. history, from the Louisiana Purchase to modern railroads and interstates. “Going to Texas” is on display in conjunction with the Mayborn Museum’s summer traveling exhibition, National Geographic MAPS: Tools for Adventure, which will run through September 7, 2008.

National geographic maps: tools for adventure

We’ve launched our 2008 summer traveling exhibit, National Geographic MAPS: Tools for Adventure, a new international traveling exhibit from The Children's Museum of Indianapolis and the National Geographic Society. The exhibit is on display in the Thomas E. and Emilyne Weed Anding Traveling Exhibit Gallery at the museum through September 7, 2008.  Dynamic elements within the exhibit, grouped by land, sea, air and space, invite families to become explorers, chart new territory and plan their own adventures. Lee Jamison painting mural

You've Asked For It!

One of the most popular exhibit questions here at the museum is "how tall were mammoths really?" In order to show our visitors, we've commissioned muralist Lee Jamison to create a "mammoth mural" in the hall of extinction. The mural is due to be finished by the end of the month, so stop by and check out his progress!

Lee is responsible for other murals around the museum, like the trompe-l'oeil (trick the eye) in the Emergence of Man exhibit. He enjoys working while the museum is open so that visitors can watch the work progress and ask questions.

Registration for Mayborn Summer Camp began on March 31, but we still have openings for the Exploration Collaboration Camp on August 11-15. Contact Lanna Palmer at 254-710-7526 to enroll. Click here for more information.
