
Summer Lecture Series
As a complement to our traveling exhibit, Wrapped
in Tradition: The Chihuly Collection of American Indian Trade
Blankets, the Mayborn Museum Complex presents an educational
and fascinating lecture series featuring renown experts on
Dale Chihuly’s work American Indian Culture, and trade
blankets. All three lectures will take place in the lecture
hall at the museum. Tickets are $15 for each lecture; Mayborn
Museum members pay $10 for each. For tickets, please call

On Friday, June 8th at 2:00 pm and Saturday,
June 9th at 10:30 am, Joanna Sikes will present
a lecture about Dale Chihuly and his work. On Friday, her
lecture will be followed by a reception where Ms Sikes will
greet visitors one on one and personally answer questions.
Lowery Begay, a Navajo musician, will be perform traditional
American Indian dances and speak on “Everything You
Ever Wanted to Know about American Indians But Were Afraid
To Ask” on Saturday, July 28th at
10:30 am.
The final lecture will be on August 3rd
at 2:00 pm, and August 4th at 10:30 am,
when author Charles Lohrmann will be speaking on American
Indian trade blankets.
Summer Movie Series
We are also presenting a summer film series featuring fascinating
documentaries on Native American history and culture. All
showings begin at 2 pm in the SBC Theater. There is no additional
charge to attend the movie screenings. Please be aware that
the SBC Theater has limited seating, so arrive early!
June 16 & 17: "Long Journey Home"
This 60 minute documentary explores the history of the Lenape,
or Delaware Indians. This tribe is known as the "Grandfather
Tribe" and was one of the first to make contact with
Anglo settlers in the Northeast. Click here for more information.

OTHER JUNE ACTIVITIES
June 23 - Demonstrations by Diana Chase
Glass artist Diana Chase will demonstrate the process of making
art out of glass from 11am to noon. Visitors will enjoy her
explanation of the process and have the opportunity to ask
questions. She will also hold a workshop for 7-12 year old
children with a parent from 2 to 3:30pm. Kids will create
a beautiful, permanent piece of artwork with her expert help.
June 24 @ 2pm: Quilling Video and Artifact Presentation
A film exploring the elegant art of quilling will be shown
in the SBC Theatre. Following the film, staff will present
relevant artifacts to visitors.
June 25 – June 28, 10am to 12pm: Mayborn Weaving
Summer Camp
These distinctive camp sessions for lucky 2nd through 6th
graders will explore the Wrapped in Tradition exhibit and
even include correlated crafts such as weaving and tie-dying.

June 30: Trade Days
Trade Days activities will interactively teach children about
purchasing without money, just as the American Indians and
early settlers did. They will participate in educational crafts
such as paper weaving, pot holder making, and belt weaving.
