January 2012 Issue #2

Somehow by the end of January I start feeling overwhelmed. The month begins in a flurry of lists and folders but devolves quickly into an out of control state.  Anticipating this feeling, I declared January's theme of the month for 2012 to be "Control".  As Joseph Pilates first tenet of his method it simply makes sense to establish control at the start of the year and work diligently to maintain it over the coming months. Here's a couple of tidbits on the theme of control by way of sharing all that's going on as we close in on the end of the month.

~Rob Denton has been enjoying D.C. and with his schedule in control again has re-installed himself on our weekend teaching roster.
~Group classes have been growing! Please reserve online so you don't get blocked out of class and then find yourself next door with a danish in hand.
~This Winter is notably mild so we decided to get our heating system in control!  Look, listen and feel for a marked improvement! Yes!!
~The Coobie Bra situation is out of control.  We can barely keep them in stock.  If there's a brand or product you'd like us to stock in our new shop  - please let us know.

Here's to the fine art of control - Contrology (as Joe called it)~

Warmly,
Alycea

Robin Brown
Robin Brown started teaching at Real Pilates in 2008, and has been proving her students are stronger than they think they are, ever since. Robin originally hails from Virginia, and moved to New York in order to develop her career as a dancer and choreographer, while also deepening her knowledge of Pilates. You can catch Robin this week performing original work as part of FLIC Fest in Brooklyn. Her Husband, Kevin, shares her passion for performance, and Robin has choreographed an evening length Duet, for the two of them. Robin is thrilled to get to perform with her husband, and hopes to see you when the curtain goes up this Friday night. I'll be there!  You can get your tickets here.

Duet in Action
 It Takes Two Baby!
Private sessions are the ultimate training ground for Pilates and group classes are fun but there is something in between those two options that might have slipped your notice.  Duets are fun, focused and cost effeciant.  We have a host of great students here at RP looking for duet partners.

Inside the Box (For Teachers Only)
This Saturdays workshop is coming up fast.  I'm excited to spend three hours together working on that all-important first session.  How to truly challenge someone in the beginner system.  Is it ok to add additional moves?  If so, which ones?  How can we make it more challenging but still be true to the method?  Bring your questions, concerns and more!  See you there.

If you can't join me for either event - stop over at my blog. It's full of rantings and ravings this month.

If you're like me, winter gets you bogged down simply by the sheer weight of it. Come Spring, al
l I want is a brand new canvas tote that is feather light.  Thankfully we've got a few to choose from.  Here's the one you'll see me sporting.  Oh, and there's also one in my car that holds spare workout clothes in case I forget mine when I'm out of town.  Check it out right   here!

Not a bad little Valentine's day bag either!
