Can You Afford to Switch Careers?

Since it's likely that you'll be working well into your 60s, my question to you becomes - can you afford NOT to be happy in your job?

Sometimes, it's easy to believe that you're in a place that eliminates any hope for change; DON'T let that be your story. There's always hope, there's always a way.

Carefully consider your skillets, your budget, your time, and your will to succeed. Anything can be accomplished by baby steps.

5 Signs You're Burned Out at Work

Greetings!

Sarah Zink
How do you define 'quality
of life'? I've heard that term used a lot when referring to the end of a person's life, but I'd like to share some thoughts based on the 'NOW' in your life.

Too often, we get busy 'surviving', (managing jobs, careers, households and children) and don't really think about the quality of our life.

Oh, sure - we might take a vacation, have a few beers, water ski, swim in the ocean, visit with family, etc., but then we're back to the grindstone.

But is that Quality of Life?

I challenge you to browse through this month's newsletter with new and open eyes. Consider the points in each article that address factors that influence your quality of life. Determine if your standards for quality are being met. What changes do you need to make to improve your quality of life?

Remember, the choices you make every day have a direct impact on your quality of life. Change your choices, change your life.

In closing, I want to say, "THANK YOU!" for your positive comments on the change in the format of this monthly newsletter!  I appreciate your kind words, your support, and your ideas for upcoming content. As always, your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas are always welcome. Email me at szink@SarahZink.com.
Quality of Life: Being in Tune with Yourself

Do you know....
Who you really are? Do you stop moving and talking long enough to listen to the still small voice deep inside you?

Too often, we don't slow down because we are afraid of the silence, and fear being alone with ourselves. I strongly encourage you to spend a day alone - no TV, radio, phone, iPad, etc. Meditate on who you are, what you believe, what you want in life.

I'm shocked at the number of people that I know who have never done it. You need to have quality time with YOURSELF. Listen to your heart, your mind, your soul. This doesn't have to be a 'glitter and unicorn' moment; but it DOES need to be a time where you are fully introspective. Even when you find things that make you sad or uncomfortable, you learn about yourself and your responses. You can also learn to make better choices when you are truly in tune with yourself.

If you are into groups, learn how to meditate (yes, there are techniques you can learn that will help you); if you are more of a 'lone wolf' kind of person, 'Google it' and find some good tips on effective meditation. But however you choose to begin, DO IT.

Quality of Life: Work

Do you REALLY...
Like what you do for a living? Do you enjoy your work? Do you make the kind of money you believe you could?

DON'T buy into the "recession/depression" thinking. I know many people who are finding jobs, getting raises and making more money than ever because they are working SMARTER, not HARDER.

I believe that it's important to work, to have a purpose, to DO something. And when you consider that we spend nearly half our days and more than half our lives working, it's insane to spend that much time doing something we hate at a company we don't like, with people we don't care for.

LIFE is short. Find your joy and passion in life, and learn to make money from it.

Quality of Life: Relationships

Do you believe....
That you deserve a drama-free life? Do you even think it's possible? Do you believe that you deserve to be loved, treated with respect, and valued?

Do you choose who you let into your life, or do you let just anyone enter your 'inner circle'? Do you choose to hang out with people who are better, faster, smarter and stronger than yourself in an effort to become better, faster, smarter and stronger, or are you the top of your social 'food chain'?

Are you with someone because you can't stand to be alone? Do you evaluate your worth based on having a boyfriend or girlfriend? Do you evaluate your worth based on the number of FB friends you have? Can you stand on your own two feet in a relationship, or are you 'needy'?

There has to come a point when you take responsibility for your choices as they relate to your friendships, love-ships, and interactions on all levels with the people in your life. The choices you make about EVERYTHING will be largely dependent on who you are involved with and who is influential in your life. Make wise choices, reap wise rewards.

The Best way to Celebrate Valentines Day

Have You Ever Considered...
That much of our quality of life is defined by how we handle the little moments in our lives? I also believe that our quality of life can be damaged by unrealistic expectations. Valentines day can be one the most beautiful little moments, or one of the most damaging little moments, and it's all dependent on how you handle it.

Consider this: If you're in a relationship, is your expectation of Valentines Day based on getting 'stuff'? Is it based on some kind of romance-novel expectation of hot sultry nights? Do you historically end up disappointed on Valentines day?

If you're living the single life, do you dread Valentines Day because it seems like a spotlight is shining on your alone-ness? (click HERE for some ideas to celebrate by yourself)

Here's a challenge: Whether you are single or in a relationship - to avoid the hype and over-expectation of Valentines Day. Rather, enter that moment in your life with a renewed commitment to LOVE YOURSELF.

"I don't need flowers, I don't need chocolate, I don't need jewelry, I don't need lingerie, I just need one thing: that's my hubby by my side toasting with red wine to another year of being able to celebrate Valentines day being more in love than the year before... that and the kids asleep :) We will celebrate with the kiddos in the evening because we like to show them Valentines is about celebrating those we love." Quality of Life: Finances

Do you Manage....
Your money in ways that take you in the direction of your dreams? Do you make choices every day that empower you financially? Are you saving money every month, even if it's only $20, $30 or $50? I don't believe that quality of life is about how MUCH money you have; rather, I believe it's about how you MANAGE the money you have.

Have you made poor financial decisions or have you had life events that ruined your credit or put you into a bind with your creditors?

Sometimes, we make choices that set us up for financial failure.Sometimes, life events set in motion a series of circumstances that make managing our money difficult.

Nothing is more mentally, emotionally, or socially challenging as having to wrangle bad credit and deal with creditors. I can say with great passion and confidence that you CAN get out of any financial hole in which you find yourself. I've done it, so can you.
