Roadside air - especially along busy roads, highways and agricultural areas - contain high levels of pollen, dust, soot and smog whose harmful effects are well documented. And children, with "young lungs", are more sensitive to the effects of air pollution than adults. So if you are taking the kids to school or soccer practice with the windows rolled up the air quality inside a car often can be worse than the air outside - especially in our area. Audi, Saab & Volvo vehicles as early as 1986 have cabin air filtration systems. We have found most people are unaware that their vehicle is equipped with this feature. A cabin air filter acts much like the filter in the home's heating system - trapping dust, dirt and grime from the road and pumping clean air into the passenger compartment. Over time, however, the cabin air filter can get clogged and actually multiply the dangers associated with these pollutants when the vehicle's heating and air conditioning system blows them into the closed interior with no avenue for escape. Depending on the system your vehicle is equipped with, replacement can take from 10-60 minutes. Two kinds of cabin filters are found on vehicles today - the particulate cabin filter and the activated charcoal cabin filter. The cost of the filter can vary greatly - the fact remains the benefits far out way the costs. |

Everyone has their two cents when it comes to gas
prices and fuel economy. The facts remain: Gas
prices are too high and fuel economy is too low. So
when will we make some forward progress? Maybe it
is time to take matters into our own hands...
Here's where we can gain or lose fuel economy: - 10% for a clogged engine air filter. - 3% just by maintaining proper tire pressure. - 4% for engine malfunctions such as worn spark plugs and faulty fuel and emission control systems. If your Check Engine Light is on - Fuel Economy may be suffering. - 20% is the difference between 55 and 70 miles per hour. - Idling: Zero Miles per hour = Zero Miles Per Gallon. One fact remains - vehicle maintenance is money in the bank! |
