Our health depends on many factors. We must have air, water and adequate nutrition (from healthy foods and whole food supplements of course) to survive.
But, do we need to exercise? YES!
Over the last century we have become more and more technologically advanced and thus more and more sedentary (meaning we sit still on our behinds.)
Well, just because we've made it more possible to be less active doesn't mean we should be. Our bodies were engineered a looong time ago and they were designed to MOVE----often...not to sit around and look at computer screens or TVs all day.
Taking a walk can reduce your stress
Have you ever noticed that taking a walk and looking at the world around you while you stroll will improve your mood? This really happens. It is a great way to help with stress, anxiety, and fatigue. It gets our eyeballs (and attention) unstuck from 3 feet in front of our faces and also gets our bodies moving.
Of course there are many physical benefits to exercise. Just adding some moderate activity like walking, hiking or a leisurely bike ride a couple times a week could give you health improvements such as: bone and muscle strength, spine health, a lower heart rate, improved posture, flexibility and balance.
What exercise is right for you?
Ask your practitioner what type of exercise he or she thinks is right for you. I personally recommend Pilates as a great form of exercise because it can be done by almost anyone regardless of a
ge or ability. It improves your core strength, flexibility and alignment.
If you missed my lecture last night called Move your Body with Pilates and you'd like me to do a future talk on Pilates and getting your body moving again please feel free to let us know.
