In Michigan right now there is a bill pending that would expand the scope of practice for chiropractors to what the education of chiropractors allows. In other words, we will be able to adjust all joints of the body (not just the spine) and order lab tests.
Twenty five years ago, the scope of chiropractic practice was limited by an underhanded allopath who snuck in a rider on some legislation. He wanted to reduce the power of chiropractors so his profession would have less competition. He was successful.
The result of this has been extravagant medical bills. Have you noticed? It's a monopoly on you health care. If it were up to "them", your only option for healthcare would be poisonous chemicals and sharp knives. Chiropractors are asking for a level playing field so that we can provide conservative, inexpensive, ethical food advice and body work that actually gets results. We are the only significant competition to pharmaceutical medicine.
Despite opposition, this bill has gone far in the legislative process with very little money behind it because it has common sense and truth on its side. The legislators like it because they want a fair playing field in the medical world and they want health care costs to come down. The opponents of this bill do not want a fair playing field.
If this passes, it will be quite an accomplishment. It comes down to a few crucial days between now and the end of December to get to the Governor's desk and signed.
Our civic servants in Lansing do CARE about your opinion. They tally up the number of emails, faxes, and phone calls they get regarding various issues. It's a numbers game. Please play it.
