Continued cuts to the education budget have put public schools in what seems like a perpetual state of "crisis." In reality, education in California has been experiencing significant stresses for the past 30 years, with the recent deep recession and its aftermath causing the most harm. Advocacy Day is an opportunity for a large group of concerned citizens to gather together and show that we care deeply about education, our children, and our communities.
We will hear from experts from the California Budget Project, the Contra Costa Office of Education, and the California State PTA. Each will enhance our understanding of the challenges facing education in our state. We will have the opportunity to hear and question our local elected state representatives during the Legislator Panel, moderated once again by John Fensterwald, a journalist at the Silicon Valley Education Foundation and editor and co-writer of the online Thoughts on Public Education and Educated Guess. An afternoon breakout session will round out the day, as we continue to explore specific topics in education and advocacy. The choices are: California School Finance 101; Mobilizing Your Community; Understanding Special Needs Funding; and The Digital Classroom.
Your presence makes a difference! The more people who attend, the stronger the message we will deliver. Sign-up with a friend and (re)discover citizen action.

A strong public education system is vital to California's well-being in a global society. Strengthening the public schools requires that all Californians work together and provide support for our public school system. The priority of California must be children and education.
