LTCC President's Message
Now that the whirlwind that is the start of school has passed, I hope you are feeling settled in your Board roles.  There are several steps you can take now to ensure a smoother and more productive school year.
  • Presidents should meet regularly with their school principals to make sure that principals and the PTA work together to support both the mission and vision of the PTA and those of the school.
  • Make sure Executive Board members have read the Unit Bylaws.  It doesn't take long and will save you time in the end by making sure that you are following proper procedures.
  • All Executive Board members and Committee Chairs should have a Procedure Book and keep it updated throughout the year.  You will regret it if you wait until the end of the year to start one!
  • Your Historian should have already set up a process for recording volunteer hours throughout the school year.

In these challenging budget times, PTA is more important than ever in promoting  the education and welfare of our students.  Thanks so much for all you do!

LTCC Historian Needed!

help wantedHelp Wanted

Position:  Council Historian

Start date:  Immediately

Compensation:  Our immense gratitude!

We are looking for someone to fill our Council Historian position. Responsibilities include chairing the Scholarship and Honorary Service Award Committees and compiling volunteer hours. If interested, or if you know anyone else who might be, please contact any LTCC Board member.

Treasurer's Notes

Let me start by thanking all Unit Treasurers for all their hard work!

By now most units have sent in their year-end reports and budgets. But as a reminder to all treasurers, even reports that were presented and approved at your executive board meeting still require approval by the PTA association. If reports were not approved by your association, make sure to have it done at the next association meeting.

This has also been a year of change and one of the biggest is tax filing requirements. Units are required to file the RRF-1 Report. Units with assets greater than $25,000 must file a State tax return. If you have questions about any of these new requirements, please contact me, and we can work through PTA channels.

Another change is with our membership remittance (National dues increase). I am glad to say that so far this matter has been handled successfully by all units.

As with all changes, issues do come up. I will try to do my best to keep everyone informed and to answer or find out answers for all the questions that you may have.

Important due dates (to Council) coming up:

Membership Reminders

Contact your teachers and staff and encourage them to join PTA. Personalize a letter to your teachers listing all the things your unit does for their classrooms and include a return envelope for their membership remittance. Remember the "T" in PTA is for teacher and we should aim for 100% participation.

Submit memberships to LTCC Treasurer with a unit remittance form:

  • First Required Remittance is November 1, 2011 (additional memberships)
  • All membership dues collected after the initial membership drive should be submitted monthly
  • Final Remittance is June 1, 2012

If you need information, resources or assistance don't hesitate to contact me.

2011-12 LTCC Directory

Hot off the press, the neon yellow covered LTCC 2011-12 Unit Membership Directory. Look for this year's directories to distribute to your Principal and Executive Board members in your school PTA mailbox.

Unit Visitations

LTCC Executive Board members plan to visit at least one of your unit association meetings during the school year. Our council visits show support. We will let you know before we're scheduled to visit and we ask that you introduce us to your members. We're here to help throughout the year if you have any questions contact us.
