Hello PTA Presidents and Executive Boards,

Welcome to the Las Trampas Creek Council's first edition of Council Bytes.  This e-communication is intended to serve as a quick glance tool to all the PTA Presidents and their Executive Boards within the Acalanes, Walnut Creek, Lafayette and Moraga School Districts to provide tidbits, highlights, information on upcoming training and dates to mark on your calendars.  Keep an eye out for it once a month.  It is with great pleasure that the LTCC offers this communication tool to all of our PTAs.  Should you have questions, comments and/or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me or anyone on the LTCC Board.  We are here to support you!  Enjoy!

Best regards,
Jill Buschini, LTCC President

Reflections 2008-09 "WOW!"
Reflections
How did our schools respond to a theme like "WOW!"?   Initially, there was concern that the theme was too broad, too undefined and that the kids' would not know how to react to it.  However, all 13 schools stepped up to the plate and submitted entries!

And this year, they are proving to be more creative than ever!  "New" to the Reflections Program this year is a "Required Artist's Statement", which helps the judges interpret the student's work.  We were moved by the amazing artists' statements the kids provided.  Here are a few samples:

Title: "Nothing is Impossible"
Statement:  It "wows" how people with disabilities can do anything they dream of.

Title: "What a wonderful "wow" peace would be"
Statement:  My work connects to the theme because "wow" to me is peace.  Peace across the world would wow me and hopefully others, which is what I am trying to accomplish with my piece.

Title: "Shooting Stars Lullaby"
Statement:  This is the first amazing song I have written and it made me go "wow!"

Aren't we proud of our kids?  Thank you to all the school chairs who made the program a "wow" and a gift for so many children.

Come to the LTCC Reflections Open House Showcase on Saturday, December 6, Michael W. De Sa Library at WCI, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  The students' work will be honored and the entries selected for the next level will be revealed that day!
By-Laws & Standing Rules Workshop
Do you know the difference between your association's bylaws and standing rules?  Here are a couple of examples:

·   Bylaws state when the meetings of the association and executive board are held.

·   Standing Rules tell where and what time these meetings are held.

·   Bylaws give the primary responsibilities of officers and chairmen.

·   Standing Rules give the specifics.

Council Parliamentarian, Katie Peņa, will present a workshop:

"How to Make Bylaws & Standing Rules
Work for Your PTA"
Tuesday, December 2
7:00-9:00 p.m.
Walnut Creek School District Office
(960 Ygnacio Valley Road, Walnut Creek)

The workshop will focus mainly on creating and maintaining your association's Standing Rules, which should outline the procedures, job descriptions and other details of how your PTA administers its monthly PTA work.  A good set of Standing Rules can really help in recruiting future officers for your PTA.  And, you can't have a discussion about Standing Rules without a little understanding of Bylaws, so Bylaws will be briefly covered!

Unit Parliamentarians and Presidents are encouraged to attend, but all officers of your PTA are welcome to come join the discussion.

Please note:  32nd District PTA is also presenting a Bylaws workshop on Monday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. Click here for the workshop details.
