| AUHSD Superintendent's Message |
With less than a week until an historic presidential election, I would like to share with you some local voter information.
Measure E is the high school district facilities bond to fund improvements to the buildings and grounds at each of our campuses. Measure E does not increase the current tax rate. The November 4 ballot is very long and Measure E is one of the last items.
By law all absentee ballots must be received by the County Elections Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day. If your ballot has not been mailed by Thursday, October 30, it can be hand delivered to any polling place in your district on Election Day. If you have college students who will be voting absentee, remind them to mail their ballot by October 30.
Please check to make sure your polling place has not changed. You can find your polling place on-line at: http://www.cocovote.us/PrecinctFinder.aspx

| AUHSD Facilities Funds Put to Optimal Use |
The final report of the Citizens' Oversight Committee for the 2002 Measure B school facilities bond was recently completed. Central to the committee's report is the conclusion that AUHSD has successfully completed all of the projects promised under Measure B in a fiscally responsible and timely manner.
"Having chaired the Citizens' Oversight Committee for Measure B, I've seen firsthand how the District works to optimize every dollar to bring about the timely completion of facility upgrades. I have every confidence that the District is fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars," says Art Kapoor who chaired the Measure B Citizens' Oversight Committee for the past five years.
Kapoor, an engineer by training who also holds an MBA from the University of Michigan, is one of ten community volunteers to serve on the Measure B Citizens' Oversight Committee. In agreeing to serve the District in this way, Kapoor brought his experience as a business owner and professional expertise in dealing with large capital projects. Noting that this was his first involvement with an AUHSD committee, Kapoor said that he volunteered for this job because he understood the need to phase facility improvements and wanted to make sure that money from Measure B was spent wisely so voters would look favorably on future measures. "It was obvious at the time that the District would need to ask voters to fund additional projects in the future. I now have every confidence that AUHSD works diligently, and in the public trust, to optimize every single dollar it gets for facility improvements," Kapoor says.
The Measure B Citizens' Oversight Committee final report makes ten special commendations for the District's handling of Measure B. Several of these include leadership in securing the local funding necessary to qualify for state matching funds, refinancing prior bond issues at lower rates to reduce taxpayer obligations, and ensuring that the projects were finished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
