Welcome to GET SMART On Education !

GET SMART On Education provides straight-forward information about California legislation and public education issues that affect our local schools. The Las Trampas Creek Council of PTAs (LTCC) Legislation Team makes it easy to work with fellow parents and citizens in Lamorinda and Walnut Creek to become informed. We provide links to experts and more detailed reports and show you how to communicate with your government representatives. The LTCC Legislation Team meets monthly throughout the year and welcomes all to participate.

Proposition 76 Defeated

Yesterday California voters rejected Proposition 76, the “Live Within Our Means” initiative, on the special election ballot. This is good news for school districts in our area and throughout the state. In our last issue of GET SMART, we outlined the dire impact Proposition 76 would have had on public school funding. THANK YOU for taking the time to become informed and for your support in defeating this measure!

Stay Informed

While the California State PTA, many local parent groups, and other education supporters agreed that Proposition 76 was a bad idea for our schools, most people also agree that the State’s budget process and system of funding public education are still in need of reform. Rational change requires a thoughtful, balanced approach that is informed by dialogue among citizens and their elected officials. The Legislation Team is focused on providing a local forum for such discussion and debate of issues affecting public education, with sensitivity to broader State implications. We hope you’ll be part of this continuing conversation at our monthly meetings.
