Blue Book Calendar Updates for October 17
Please update your Blue Book Calendars to reflect a 12:30 p.m. dismissal for ALL students on Wednesday, October 17. Please see the posting below regarding the full October 17 schedule.
Also on October 17, 8th grade students and parents are invited back on campus for a special presentation, "Heading to High School." The 8th graders and their parents will have an exclusive opportunity to experience Upper School while finding out about curriculum, learning journeys and college counseling in grades 9-12.
Additional Calendar Changes
The following 12:30 p.m. dismissal dates will now be for BOTH Upper and Middle Schools to allow for teacher professional development time:
- Thursday, October 25
- Thursday, November 15
- Tuesday, December 10 *
- Monday, February 18
- Thursday, April 25
* The final calendar change is to move the 12:30 p.m. dismissal for Tuesday, December 4 to Monday, December 10, and it will also be for BOTH Upper and Middle Schools. EWS is proud to participate in Hoops for Hannukah and we want our faculty/staff and students to show their support. Both the varsity Boys and Girls Basketball Teams will take to the court at the Toyota Center. Stay tuned for more details soon!

Keep up with the College Counseling Department with the College Counseling Department Newsletter. Representatives from three different colleges and universities will be on campus for this, including reps from Southern Methodist University, University of Chicago and Clark University. Plan ahead for next week when reps from 17 colleges and universities will be here!

Join the Middle School for Dinner in the Sukkah
Please come celebrate Sukkot with the Middle School. Bring a dairy meal for you and your family. We'll provide (or will be selling) drinks and dessert. Music will be provided compliments of Kelly Dean and students. Join us Thursday, October 4 from 6 - 8 p.m. in the Sukkah.

PA Corner: Jewish Life Programming and Spirit Wear
Jewish Life Programming
The Parent's Association Jewish Life Committee happily provided apples and honey jelly beans in honor of Rosh Hashanah last week. Other upcoming Jewish Life Programming activities include Sundaes in the Sukkah for the Middle School on Wednesday, October 3 and Breakfast in the Sukkah for the Upper School on Thursday, October 4. Spirit Wear
The EWS Spirit Store will be open this Friday, September 28 from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. We will be in the Commons and ready to fill your spirit wear and PE uniform needs! Cash, check, Mastercard, Visa and Discover will be accepted. So get in carpool line early and shop with us! Or, have your student stop by on their way out to pick up a new hoodie or dry-fit EMERY shirt.

October 17 Upper School Schedule of Events
9th Grade to the Houston Zoo: Students should arrive to school no later than 8 a.m. in order to board the bus. The students will return by 12:00 p.m. for lunch and all 9th graders are required to remain on campus for Community Service programming. Students will complete an assignment for Biology during their time at the Zoo. Details will be provided in their Biology I class.
10th and 11th Grade PSAT Test: Sophomores and juniors will need to bring several #2 pencils and a calculator on October 17.
- Extended time students will be notified by email from Mr. Blice by September 27.
PSAT Test Arrival Times: Extended Time: 7:55 a.m. Arrival 8 a.m. - 12:10 p.m. Test administered 12:10 p.m. Lunch

12th Grade College Counseling Workshop:12th Graders will participate in an informative and fun workshop hosted by our very own College Counseling Department. Parents are invited to attend the workshop from 8 - 10 a.m. and students will remain until 12 p.m. to work on College Applications. If parents of seniors would like to attend the workshop, please RSVP to Lee Mimms to confirm your spot at the workshop. - 12th Graders are required to be at school on October 17.

Vocal Ensemble to Sing at Aeros Game
The EWS Vocal Ensemble has been invited to sing at an upcoming Houston Aeros hockey game. Tickets for the Sunday, November 4 game are available for $10 until Friday, October 12.
If you would like to purchase tickets, please pay with cash or check (Payable to: The Emery/Weiner School - Memo: Aero's Game). After Friday, October 12, tickets are regular priced. You can only purchase the discounted tickets through EWS, so please feel free to drop off your payment at the Middle School Office (Cathy Power), or the Upper School office (Emmie Rothenbach) before October 12. Tickets will be available for pickup a few days before the game or you can have them will-call'ed.
We would love to see each of you on November 4, but also would like for you to spread the word and invite as many people as possible.
