Better than Soda

Make this "soda" in 3 seconds.
Not only will it satisfy your sweet tooth,
it will also minimize your sugar cravings all together.

Stevia Soda

- 1 glass  Cold water (bubbly water makes better "soda".)
-1 Tbs     Bragg's
RAW Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1 pinch (or dropper if liquid)   Stevia

Mix. Drink with a smile on your face.

BREATHE.

Goodbye sugar.  Hello balanced energy!

The Secret:
Use Stevia instead of sugar to satisfy the sweets craving without the "crash" feeling afterwards.

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar has not been pasteurized and is a  natural probiotic food that will replenish your GOOD bacteria and thus keep in balance the bad bacteria (aka yeast, Candida).  Yeast cells eat sugar to survive -- that's what could be driving you mad with sugar cravings!

Apple cider vinegar also helps aid digestion.

Kick the Sugar Habit Smoothie

- 2 cups fresh dandelion greens

- 1 cup fresh parsley

- 2 cups or more water

-1 cup raspberries (frozen is ok)

2 targerines  (peeled)

- 1 pear

- 1 inch fresh ginger

Place fruit in blender first, then add greens. Blend well and enjoy!

Avocado-Kraut-on-the-Go

- 1 avocado

 - ½ cup raw Sauerkraut

- 1 Tbs. Dulse flakes (seaweed)

Halve the avocado, take the pit out, and fill the opening from the pit with sauerkraut & dulse.

Even if you're not really a sauerkraut fan, you'll be delighted with the salty creamy texture of mixing it with avocado:)  Raw cultured foods promote a healthy gut and aid digestion.
Seaweed helps to mineralize your system and help prevent a sugar binge.

 Gina Renee, L.Ac.Reflections for Fall
Can you feel it? Fall is in the air!!  Nights are cold and the leaves are just starting to turn beautiful shades of reds and yellows. It's nice to feel a change of season with all of its unique beauty, isn't it? As Nature prepares for winter, so too should we begin our own form of preparation. Read on to learn more on how we can take care of ourselves this season -- and take a moment to enjoy these magical first days of fall. Be Well ~ Gina

Letting Go
Fall is a Time of Letting Go

Notice how our trees delight in letting go of what is unnecessary to carry into winter?

In Chinese medicine, autumn relates to the metal element, and specifically to our lungs and large intestine. It's a time of judgment, reflection, letting go of what is old and not serving us. Fall offers us a wonderful opportunity to lighten the burden that we might carry with us into winter -- both physically and emotionally. This makes fall the ideal time to free ourselves from old, outdated and harmful habits, thoughts and emotions and cleanse harmful toxins from our body, too.

Take a deep breath and fill your lungs with new, vital, life force energy. And then -- Let Go

Feels good, doesn't it? The process of our exhalation from the lungs is one of the most basic and meaningful biological activities in our body. It's also one of the most important means of detoxification we possess. We not only release carbon dioxide, but with the right intention, old (maybe even toxic) thoughts and emotions, too.

Of course, we also eliminate waste through the colon -- in a much more literal way! A colon that isn't functioning properly creates a whole host of problems, from constipation to irritable bowel syndrome -- but it's also a common manifestation of emotional imbalance and holding on to old and unhealthy "stuff".

Both of these biological processes are fundamental to our physical and emotional means of "letting go" -- and as we enter into fall, you might want to consider whether there is any excess weight, unhealthy habits or toxic emotions that you'd like to begin releasing.

We aren't always aware of what we need to let go, and a gentle physical cleanse gives us an opportunity to release unhealthy "stuff" from our body, and as a result, become more in tune with what might also need to be released emotionally.

On a practical level, a fall detox also primes our body for the challenges of winter and especially for the tendency toward stress and overindulgence during the holidays. Both aspects of cleansing can have a tremendous impact on our health, happiness, and wellbeing.

I just completed a 7 day Fall cleanse and detox -- and I feel amazing! Let me help you feel the same:)

To start a gentle cleansing and preparation for the months ahead, focus on the basics of healthy eating during this fall season --

1.  Eliminate all processed foods. By processed I mean, most anything that you cannot obtain from the Farmer's Market or produce section of your local market. If something contains flour and comes in a box or bag ready to eat -- it's processed!!! Try to eat only what the earth has grown in its pure glory -- this miracle of Nature is like a love note from Creation! Fill yourself with our local bounty from a Farmer's Market.

 2. Increase your intake of hardy green leafy vegetables, like kale, collard greens and dandelion greens --  and boost your liquid consumption in the form of pure water, green smoothies, freshly made veggie juices, herbal and organic green teas, and homemade clear vegetable broths and soups.

3. Drink 16 - 24 oz of room-temperature or warm water with the juice of half a lemon upon rising in the morning to cleanse, re-hydrate, activate your liver and get your digestive juices ready for the day.

Acupuncture beats headaches Acupuncture Banishes Headaches

Headaches are extremely common. While everyone experiences an occasional headache, statistics show that 1 out of 6 people suffer from chronic headaches.

Acupuncture can effectively relieve headaches, as well as treat their underlying causes. In fact, headaches are one of the conditions most commonly seen in acupuncture clinics today! It can offer powerful relief without the side effects that prescription and over-the-counter drugs can cause. I see many patients who arrive for their visit suffering from a headache or migraine, and leave pain-free. You can't beat that!

Headaches that can be treated with acupuncture include migraines, tension headaches, headaches occurring around the menstrual cycle, sinus headaches and stress-related headaches
.

Studies show that patients treated with acupuncture experience fewer headaches compared to those given only pain killers, and acupuncture has been proven to be superior to prophylactic drug treatments.

In one specific study involving 270 patients, acupuncture cut tension headache rates almost in half. And guess what? No side effects.

Instead of suffering from chronic headaches, call me today to schedule an appointment to see how acupuncture can help you live free from headache pain and allow you to experience radiant health and wellness. 831-886-5750

Here are some lifestyle tips to help you stay healthy and headache free:

Diet- Eat regular meals at regular times to avoid your blood sugar from falling too quickly. Also, avoid foods and drinks that are known to trigger headache attacks including processed foods, processed meats, WHEAT, dairy, aged cheese, SUGAR, alcohol, and foods and beverages that contain aspartame (Equal) and other artificial sweeteners.

Sleep- Maintain a regular sleeping schedule, including weekends and vacations.

Stress- Stress is one of the most common headache and migraine triggers. Acupuncture is wonderful for relieving stress and keeping you more balanced.

Exercise daily- Exercise stimulates the body to release endorphins, which are brain chemicals that improve mood and relieve stress, which are known headache triggers.

Peppermint Oil- Peppermint oil has a calming and soothing effect on the body, and is often used to treat headaches. Rub peppermint essential oil across your forehead and temples to relieve a tension headache or inhale a peppermint steam treatment to treat a sinus headache. Adding 10-15 drops of peppermint oil to a warm bath is another great way to relax, help reduce muscle tension and relieve a headache.

Feverfew- Feverfew is a medicinal herb that has been used since ancient Greece for swelling and inflammation. Studies have shown that feverfew limits inflammation of blood vessels in the head and can reduce headaches. Feverfew generally takes up to four to six weeks to take effect. Sip tea or take a feverfew supplement daily.

Ginger Tea- Numerous clinical studies have shown that ginger can be used to relieve headaches. Researchers believe it does so by relaxing the blood vessels in the head and diminishing swelling in the brain. It also activates natural opiates in the brain that relieve pain, and it reduces prostaglandins, which are responsible for causing inflammation.

Kick Sugar Fast
3 Proven Ways to Kick Sugar FAST!

Did you know?

Low energy, headaches, depression, low sex-drive, digestive problems, painful menstruation, a weak immune system and mood swings are all linked to over-consumption of sugar??

It's true.

Many of my patients think they have a willpower problem when it comes to sugar and sweets.  In my experience, if you have a major sweet-tooth, most likely you do NOT have a willpower problem.

Sugar cravings are often caused by an
imbalance in minerals and YEAST. Yuck.

So, the problem really isn't just in your head.  It is also in your GUT.
When there is an overgrowth of Candida yeast or "bad" bacteria that take over the good bacteria in your gut, you will have cravings for sweets because that's what those little yeasty critters crave.

And...since 70% of our immune system is located within our digestive system, kicking sugar and healing our gut is imperative for us staying healthy this season.

So, If you want to kick sugar fast, you must starve the yeast and restore balance to your system. Here are a few tips:

1.      Take a good probiotic supplement and/or take a bit of  Bragg's Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, a natural probiotic, in your water every morning to populate the good bacteria in your gut.  (1 -2 TBS to a glass).  Another option is to eat cultured foods such as real, raw Sauerkraut or kim chee, also natural probiotics. You will soon notice your sugar cravings subside.

2.      Double up on Minerals. A sweet tooth is often a symptom of mineral deficiency.  Eat more greens!! Greens are sexy and contain an abundance of minerals and enzymes. Drink freshly made green juice, a green smoothie or even a green powder in water daily. I've found that Green Smoothies are amazing for kicking a sugar habit. They are easy and delicious. For a great organic green powder that tastes good, contact Nancy Broderick, The Raw Food Chick, to get your bottle of Catie's Organic Greens.

3.      When you crave sugar, eat protein instead.  Most often, the sugar craving will go away.  Stick with clean, grass-fed, naturally-raised meats, poultry or eggs and wild fish, such as salmon or sardines. If you are a vegan, chia seeds and hemp seeds are excellent sources of protein, containing all the essential amino acids.

And last but not least......try some sweet lovin':)
There might be not enough emotional sweetness and tenderness in your life.  And food won't fill that hole in your heart. Be good to yourself. Fill yourself with love and engage in activities that truly bring you joy.
