President's Message

Greetings and Salutations,

Fall is officially here and there is no shortage of exciting events and activities happening in the Greater Patchogue area this month! Whether it's the 5th Annual Patchogue Arts Festival or the Business Promotion Committee's fundraiser, "Party at the Playhouse", there is something for everyone.

I would like to take a moment to remind you of the many networking opportunities the Chamber has available to you. Our monthly networking and general meetings are a great way to show your support for other members, meet new people and learn about products and services that can help benefit your business. The Chamber also has a number of committees that are always in need of volunteers and new ideas. Joining a committee is an opportunity to establish connections with residents and businesses in the Greater Patchogue area while helping the community and our members with advocacy, events, projects and scholarships. Please keep in mind that these networking opportunities are open to your employees as well and is a great way to build business relationships and get your name, and your company, out there.

George Hoag has decided to remain as the Chairperson for the Newsletter Committee. Thank you George for your continued dedication to the Chamber. Your hard work is very much appreciated.

I am very excited to serve as President for the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce and look forward to working with our members and organizations. I hope to make this year a productive and successful one.

Sincerely,

Jacqueline Hensley

St. Liberata Sizzles

Our annual Main Street St. Liberata Italian Festival, sponsored by the Foundation's Cultural Heritage Committee, and chaired by Jim Romeo, was held in cool and cloudy weather on Saturday, September 29. The chill didn't discourage the diners (above) outside Main Street Italian Bistro.

Paul Felice was honored as Italian American Of The Year and the original Saint statue was paraded. Dollars which are customarily pinned to the Saint are donated to the Outreach program at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.  James Romeo and Joe Tavano won the Bocce Tournament. The Knights of Columbus team took secon place and Sal Aloisio and Joe Torres were third.

The original festival ran from 1923 to 1962. It was revived in 1996.

Emporium Impresses
After a $5 million renovation of the old Knights of Columbus at 9 Railroad Ave., Patchogue, The Emporium is open to big crowds and rave reviews. It features a concert stage, sunken dance floor, three bars, an eating area with first class food, four bowling alleys and an outdoor beer garden. Check them out at theemporiumny.com.

Emporium Impacts
The Emporium is a very big place and it has been packing in a lot of people on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Up to 1500 a night. That has put a lot of pressure on parking and other village issues. The Church Street lot and the Courthouse lots have both been filled on Saturday night. Traffic on Railroad Avenue has also been so affected that Suffolk Police have asked the Village to make the street one way south, north of the parking lot entrance. At the Sept. 24 board meeting, Trustees agreed to enforce temporary northbound closures during operating hours and set an Oct. 9 public hearing on a permanent one way. Parking is a long term issue which Village officials plan to tackle.

Other September Grand Openings

Eloisa Beauty Salon & Spa is open at 122 Medford Ave,, Patchogue. Eloisa Lopez and Jairo Cabrezo are the owners.

Rudi's is open at 554 Rt. 112, Patchogue. Michael Lauria and Jason Rudilosso are the owners.

Sketchbook Studio is open at 427 West Main St., Patchogue. Meg Healy is the owner.

Sen. Gillabrand Comes For Cupcake

Patchogue has 28 women owned small businesses in its downtown and one of them is Queen City Cupcakes, 62 W. Main St., owned by Carol Reitz-Butler. New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, on a state wide tour of such businesses, bought a cupcake there on Friday, Sept. 14. Senator Gillibrand is promoting passage of federal legislation that would aid small businesses, especially women owned ones, with tax credits and other benefits.

Final demolition for the TRITEC $100 million New Village project, across the street from the Chamber office, occurred with the removal of the old Swezey's building on Sept. 11. In the picture, the Four Corners is on the left. Debris removal from the site continues.
