Greetings!
The dog days of Summer are here and we hope you're staying cool in the heat. For this month's newsletter our theme is application features that introduce some non-traditional ways to use some of our products. Check them out below, and let us know if you have an interesting application for your Kanomax instrument.

APPLICATION FEATURE: VENTILATION EXCHANGE RATES WITH IAQ MONITOR
The IAQ monitor, model 2211, is a great tool for measuring indoor air quality parameters such as CO, CO2, temperature and humidity, but did you know it also has a function that will help you calculate the percentage of outside air being introduced to your system? With this feature it's possible to figure out the number of air exchanges occurring in a set period.
As buildings focus on becoming greener and more economical, systems are becoming more isolated and, in many cases, sealed from the outside to conserve heat and air conditioning. This process is always a balancing act for the technician though, because while you want to minimize loss of heat and A/C, it's important for health reasons to make sure enough outside air is being introduced to the system to remove CO2. If CO2 levels get too high it can result in a feeling of tiredness and, in the case of workers, a decrease in productivity.

APPLICATION FEATURE: MOLD REMEDIATION WITH HANDHELD PARTICLE COUNTERS
The model 3887 3-channel handheld particle counter is useful for cleanroom certifications and spot checks, but it can also be a handy tool for mold remediation projects. This gets a little tricky, because if you're familiar with particle counters you are no doubt aware that they only count particles, they don't classify the type of particle (other then by size), so how can it be used to detect mold?
The answer: If you take the particle counter into an area that you suspect may have a mold problem you can use it to 'screen' the area by taking a count for a set duration in suspect places. By comparing the counts in each area you can identify the area that has the highest concentration of particles. This then becomes the place for the start of an in-depth investigation. This technique can save time by pinpointing likely spots that are contaminated with mold.
The counter can also be used to spot check the performance of PHEAF filters to make sure they are containing the mold particles during the remediation process and not redistributing them back into the air.

GOING CUSTOM WITH KANOMAX
In addition to a feature-rich standard product line that supports diverse applications, Kanomax USA also has the capabilities to perform custom work upon request.
Here's a picture of a model 6332 transducer and 0965-07 probe that was fabricated and custom calibrated by our technicians for a client R&D application. The probe is mounted to a PVC pipe (shown below) and will then be added to an air flow line for process control. Shown below: detail photos of the mounting plate and the probe inside the tubing If you have a challenging application that you need a hand with, or that you may not be able to find an off-the-shelf solution for, give us a call or send us an email. Our experienced team is always happy to help you work out a solution.
