It's hard to believe that another school year is reaching its end. I hope you had a chance to visit the Grossmont and Cuyamaca college campuses for some of the many activities we've offered this year.
From Grossmont College's 50th Anniversary Open House to the Spring Garden Festival coming up at Cuyamaca College, we've got lots of activity and excitement going on at our campuses. We're so proud to show off our colleges and let the community see that we're a vital part of East County!

Neil Simon's "Lost in Yonkers" at Grossmont College Theatre |
Neil Simon's award-winning play, "Lost in Yonkers," will be presented May 3 through May 12 at the Grossmont College theater. Set in 1942, the play is a heart-warmin g, honest and funny look at how we define "family."
Brothers Artie and Jay are sent to live with their grandmother, and find out that their father's family puts the "fun" in dysfunctional. With an uncle who is a small-time gangster, an aunt with the metality of a child, and a formidable, steely grandmother who struggles to understand love, Artie and Jay are thrust into a crazy world that they must somehow survive.
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on May 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 and 12, and at 2 p.m. on May 5 and 12. Tickets are $12 general admission, $11 for seniors, military and faculty/staff, and $10 for Grossmont and Cuyamaca College students. Click here for more information. |
Spring Garden Festival blooms at Cuyamaca College April 28

 As honeybees are drawn to nectar, so is the public to Cuyamaca College's Spring Garden Festival. The annual event, now in its 19th year, takes place on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cuyamaca College, the Water Conservation Garden and the Heritage of the Americas Museum. This year's theme is "Growing the Urban Farm and Garden" Learn about edible gardening, water wise gardening, garden design and composting. Enjoy expert presentations on graywater, urban chicken farming and beekeeping. Ask your toughest questions about gardening or explore the produce at the farmer's market. As always, there will be plenty of exhibits, activities, and fun learning experiences for your kids. Grossmont Orchestra and Master Chorale performs "Americana" |
The music of America will come alive May 18 and May 22 when the Grossmont Symphony Orchestra and Master Chorale performs "Americana."
Featured music includes Samuel Barber's Medea's Meditation and Dance of Vengenance Op. 23a, Aaron Copland's Quiet City and George Gershwin's Porgy and Bes: Symphonic Picture.
The Friday, May 18 performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. at St. John of the Cross Baptist Church at 8086 Broadway in Lemon Grove. The Sunday, May 22 performance will be held at 7 p.m. at Paradise Valley Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 2701 E. 8th St. in National City. A free will offering will be given. |
Rock Pop and Soul Ensemble May 18 at Cuyamaca College

Students from Cuyamaca College's Rock Pop and Soul Ensemble will be performing songs from the classic Beatles album Rubber Soul on Friday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the college's Performing Arts Theatre.
The album, listed as number five on Rolling Stone's "500 greatest albums of all time" list, includes iconic hits such as "Nowhere Man," Drive My Car," "Michele" and "Norweigan Wood."
The Rock Pop and Soul Ensemble is a class taught at Cuyamaca by assistant professor Taylor Smith. Each semester, the group learns and performs a classic rock album.
