General open season in British Columbia for mule deer (black-tailed) begins September 10th, 2012.

PFLA Goes With the Flow

 

Keenly aware that great advocacy and education opportunities sometimes turn up in their swimsuits, PFLA's Rod Bealing recently risked it all to inform members of the Cowichan Watershed Partnership about the benefits of private managed forest land. After donning the appropriate personal protective equipment, Rod glided gracefully, on a tube, down a five-kilometer stretch of the Cowichan River. 

The heat of July and the spirit of summer provided the just-right conditions to show members of the Cowichan Watershed Partnership, for themselves, up close, the healthy state of the river. Not all sunshine and soaking, a variety of issues were discussed along the way, including how PFLA members ensure our practices keep streamside areas at the forefront of planning. A big thanks to the Cowichan Watershed Partnership for their interest. PFLA will continue to share our passion for good forestry, while Rod continues to bask in his new passion for tubing down all kinds of rivers.


Yes, indeed. It's the 144th Annual Cowichan Exhibition, September 7th-9th, 2012, at Cowichan Exhibition Park. The theme for this year's exhibition is "Bounty of the Valley", and organizers have put together another action-packed, fun-filled event celebrating agriculture, farming and community in the Cowichan Valley. National Forest Week
September 23rd-29th, 2012
The Canadian Forestry Association is raising awareness about Canada's forest heritage and the value of forests to our economy, culture, traditions and history. This year's theme is Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities. You can learn more about events here

UBCM Annual Convention
September 24th-28th, 2012
The Union of BC Municipalities is holding their annual convention at the Victoria Conference Centre, September 24th through the 28th. The format for the convention this year doesn't include a trade show, but PFLA still looks forward to connecting with elected officials and ensuring the perspective of forest owners is represented at the municipal level. Vancouver Island Safety Conference and Trade Show
October 20th, 2012
The B.C. Forest Safety Council is holding their 7th annual safety conference in Nanaimo, B.C. at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, October 20th, 2012. Themed "I Make the Difference", the conference focuses on reducing health and safety risks and includes speaker panels and keynote addresses from government and industry leaders.
