Kyle's Redistricting Process Now Underway

The City of Kyle is currently undertaking the process to update boundary lines for the voting districts in the City.

The large population growth in the past 10 years has made the existing districts unbalanced, in terms of population size and ethnic composition.  With more than 28,000 people now in the City, each district should have approximately 9,330 people, maintaining a fair representation for all citizens.  City Council has appointed a seven member committee to research ways to equalize the districts and propose options for new maps.  City Council will approve a new map, hopefully in October 2011.

Public hearings will be held to give the citizens of Kyle a chance to voice their opinions on boundary changes and talk to committee members about their ideas for changes before City Council considers options for the new districts.  The first public hearing will be held at Kyle City Hall (100 W. Center St) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 7:00 pm.

TxDot Helps Fight Wildfires
When huge wind-swept wildfires erupted in central and east Texas during the Labor Day weekend, TxDOT crews helped the Texas Forest Service and local fire departments battle and contain the fast-moving blazes with equipment, fuel, water and traffic routing. In response to emergency calls for assistance, maintenance crews in the Austin, Tyler, Yoakum, Fort Worth, Atlanta, Childress, Lufkin, Amarillo and Waco districts built fireguards and supplied bulldozers, graders and extra manpower. Dynamic message signs on state highways displayed warnings of fire and smoke danger to guide motorists. Many of the fires have caused significant damage to roads, guardrails, signs and rights of way, which the agency is assessing.
