Ryan Buell National Merit Scholarship Finalist
Congratulations to Wood River High School Senior Ryan Buell, who received a Certificate of Merit as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Students are qualified based on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Out of 1.5 million entrants, 16,000 students were named Semifinalists last fall. Semifinalists are the highest scorers in each state, accounting for less than 1% of seniors statewide.
All Merit Scholar designees are chosen on the basis of their abilities, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies - without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, religious preference or family financial circumstances. Buell is also being considered for the prestigious Presidential Scholarship, one of only 3,000 students in the country. Buell has been a Blaine County School District student since the 3rd grade. He is the Captain of the Debate Team and two-time Public Forum District Champion. He is also active in the WRHS Model U.N. Team.

The Idaho SATŪ School Day testing for Juniors is on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, during the morning.
Juniors will need to have completed either the SAT, ACT, or the COMPASS test as one of the new State of Idaho graduation requirements. These three test are the most commonly used tests in college admissions today. We are currently enrolling for the exam.
Studying for the SAT can make a difference in a student's score. Juniors are encouraged to use the online access code on their PSAT score sheet and log in to www.collegeboard.org/quickstart for strategies on how to improve their SAT score, see their projected SAT scores, and view college and career planning information. In addition, WRHS is offering both math and English SAT prep classes during the next quarter. Please see your counselor to enroll in one of these classes.
Another SAT study strategy is Method Test Prep available on Naviance. For help with access to Naviance, please contact Laurie Engel, Registrar in the Counseling Office or Carla Stewart-Donaldson, the College & Career Counselor at cstewart-donaldson@blaineschools.org
